Ramona D. (Brunkow) Mueting
1929-2017

Ramona D. (Brunkow) Mueting, 87, passed away November 17th, 2017 and was received into heaven from the nursing home she resided at in Andover, Ks.

Ramona was born December 10th, 1929 near Onaga, Ks to William and Grace Ladner Grafton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two brothers.

Ramona was a 1947 graduate of Onaga High School. In 1948, Ramona married Louis E. Brunkow. Ramona and Louis lived in Onaga, had four children and were married for 27 years when Louis passed away in 1976. In 1978, Ramona married Leonard Mueting and lived on his farm near Centralia, Ks for 17 years. Leonard passed away in 1995, a few years after they moved into a home in the town of Centralia. In 2010 Ramona relocated to the Wichita, Ks. area to live close to her daughter Melanie.

Ramona’s gentle, humble spirit was recognized by all she came in contact with. She loved the simple things in life, gardening, bird watching, music, and dancing. Ramona loved her family and cherished each grandchild.

Survivors include three sons: Ward G. (Judy) Brunkow, Wilson, NC. Tim J. (Glenda) Brunkow, Greeley, CO, Shawn W. (Valecia) Brunkow, Hitchcock, TX; one daughter Melanie J. (Gregory) Muth, Andover, KS. Ramona had nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild lost at birth. She was preceded in death by one grandchild, Shanna (Brunkow) Toms, who passed away in 2013, and had many beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 22nd at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga, KS. Interment will follow in the Onaga Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her first husband Louis. Anieta Verabel Mentha
1935-2017

WICHITA – Anieta Verabel Mentha, 81, of Wichita, died Friday, November 17, 20l7 at the Harry Hines Hospice in Wichita.

She was born December 6, 1935 on a farm between Onaga and Havensville, the daughter of George and Pattie Witham Allen. She attended Lone Tree Grade School and graduated from Havensville High School in 1953.

Verabel was a member of the Havensville Christian Church and the Auxiliary to American Legion Post No. 1 in Topeka.

She married Marcell R. Mentha on June 12, 1955 in Havensville. He died January 3, 2010.

Verabel was also preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, Martin Alexander Allen, Herbert Allen, and Willa Veryl Spaulding, a half-brother, George Milton Allen, and a half-sister, Irene Allen.

Survivors include two nephews, four great nephews, five great nieces, five great-great nephews and six great-great nieces.

Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 21st at the Neuchatel Cemetery, north of Onaga. Verabel will lie in state after 9:00 a.m Monday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 1:30 Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery. Doris Virginia Wiedmer
1928-2017

Wathena, Kansas, Doris (Weis) Wiedmer, 89, of Wathena, Kansas passed away Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Wathena Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Doris was born on July 3, 1928 in Wathena, Kansas to Jacob John & Violet A. (Livingston) Weis.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Happy Valley Homemaker Extension Club, American Legion Women’s Auxiliary & Zion Women’s Guild all of Wathena, Kansas. Doris taught Sunday School, Bible School & worked with the Mission group at First Baptist Church. She was a Homemaker & a Beautician. Doris enjoyed baking & candy making, along with her flowers & her walks with her little dog.

Doris married Laverne Wiedmer on May 22, 1949 in Wathena, Kansas. He preceded her in death on February 10, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents & granddaughter, Holley Dawn Sellars.

Billy Dean Hahn
1967-2017

Billy Dean Hahn 49, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, November 17, 2017 at his home. He was born December 29, 1967 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Frances Whitten Hahn and Paul Hahn. He was a maintenance man. He liked music, having a few beers with his friends, and his dog Poncho. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Mary Jane Hahn. Survivors include, sisters, Jessie Fisk, Debbie Nell, and Sandy Puckett all of St. Joseph, brother, Paul Hahn, Cameron, MO, and step daughter, Shelly Bowman.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Monday at the Rupp Funeral Home with Memorial Services to start at 2:00 pm with Pastor Leanna VanZandt-Nauman officiating. The Inurnment will be at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery on a later date. Memorials are requested to the Billy Hahn Memorial Fund in care of Rupp Funeral Home.

Patricia Ann (Cavanaugh) Boos
1924-2017

DENTON, KS Patricia Ann (Cavanaugh) Boos, 93, of Denton, Kansas died Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Senior Village in Atchison, Kansas.

Pat was born July 28, 1924 in Atchison, Kansas to Hugh and Ruth (Clark) Cavanaugh.

She attended and graduated from St. Benedict’s Grade School and Mt. St. Scholastica Academy. Pat worked at Pillsbury’s in Atchison and then entered St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing. After receiving her nursing degree, she worked at Sister’s Hospital and the Atchison Hospital.

Pat married Clarence “Bud” Boos on February 28, 1949. They moved to Denton, Kansas where they resided their entire married life. Patricia was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Bendena, Kansas. She was a member of the Women’s Council, past president of the Doniphan County Home Health Advisory Board, and various other organizations.

Patricia is survived by her husband, Clarence “Bud”, Senior Village, Atchison.

Six sons: Jerry (Carol), Denton, Larry (Sheila), Atchison, John (Elka) and Tom (Barb), Topeka, Mark (Robin), Garden City, and David (Rita) Denton. Two daughters, Janet, Topeka and Pat (Jim) Scherer, Hiawatha. Patricia is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and sisters-in law: Shirley Cavanaugh, Atchison and Cecilia Patton, Colorado, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Mike Cavanaugh, sisters, Judy Miller and Irene Ring and a grandson, Brian Boos.

Visitation will be from 6-8 on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 with a parish rosary Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Bendena, Kansas. A celebration of Patricia’s life will be Wednesday, November 22, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church with interment in the parish cemetery.

Jo Ellen Carver
1942-2017

Jo Ellen Carver, 75, of Hiawatha, surrounded by family, died early Sunday morning, November 19, 2017, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital.

She was born June 14, 1942, at Wichita, one of three children born to the late Kenneth and Elizabeth Goodwin Bartley. At a young age, her family moved to Hiawatha to live while her Dad served in World War II. Jo grew up in Hiawatha where she attended schools, graduating Hiawatha High School with the class of 1960. She later attended Gard Business College in St. Joseph. She lived in Kansas City, Kansas a few years before returning to Hiawatha. She worked nearly all of her working life, 43 years as a matter of fact, for Hiawatha Community Hospital. Through the years, Jo held various positions on the business side of the hospital.

Jo’s hobbies included working, reading, and being an important part of her grandchildren’s life; KU Basketball, and COOKIES. To say Jo liked to bake cookies, is a BIG UNDERSTATEMENT! She was instrumental in starting “Parents without Partners” chapter in 1977, where she served as president elect.

She married Earl Carver, September 16, 1989, at Bethany Church of Christ in Hiawatha. He survives.

Also surviving is a son Kenneth “Beefy” Stephens (Dawn) of Hiawatha, step-son Roland Paul Grote of Hawley, PA; step-daughter Barbara Joan Carver of Topeka; a sister Carol Thiesing (James) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; a brother Jim Bartley (Leslie) of Horton; two grandchildren Althea Jo Jante (Colton), Derek; and two step-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Jo’s life is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 22, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Tony French will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Tuesday, where the family will meet with friends from 6 until 8 that evening.
