Dallas Jean Hunt
1974-2017


Dallas Jean Hunt 43, of De Kalb, MO passed away Sunday, December 10, 2017 at her home, after a courageous 15 month battle with cancer. She was born June 14, 1974 in St. Joseph, MO, daughter of Carol and Larry Hunt. She graduated from Bishop LeBlond High School in 1992 and St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana in 1996, and received her Masters MSW from Kansas University, Lawrence, KS. At LeBlond, she played basketball under coach Gator Rivers, was a member of the National Honor Society, and she also spoke Spanish. She was a Social worker, and was dedicated to her work as an advocate for patients rights. She worked at Laverna Village Nursing Home and Riverside Place as Director of Social Services, she also worked at Three Rivers Hospice in Mountain Grove, MO. She enjoyed showing her Basenji Show Dogs, at many area dog shows, earning Grand Champion. Dallas was a member of the St. James Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by fiancé’, David Bracken, and her father, Larry Dale Hunt. Survivors include mother, Carol Hunt of De Kalb, MO, daughter, Ziva Hunt and son, Zane Hunt both of the home, two sisters, Andrea (Dave) Glidewell of St. Peters, FL, and Lisa (Randy) Glidewell of St. Joseph, MO, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 14, 2017, at 11:00 am at the St. James Catholic Church, Fr. Vincent Rogers, Fr. Evan Harkins Con-Celebrants. The Rosary will be recited at 5:30 pm, Wednesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. Edythe L. Porter
1921-2017

Edythe L. Porter passed away Sunday, December 10, 2017, at her home in St. Joseph. She was born January 6, 1921 in Maryville, MO, and spent most of her life there. Edythe earned a teaching certificate from Northwest Missouri State Teachers College and taught at Clyde school and Mt. Vernon school in Nodaway County in the 1940s before working at Sears in Kansas City. She married Johnnie J. Porter in 1946; they were married almost 67 years. She worked at J C Penney for 16 years, then part-time for Montgomery Ward followed by work at the Sears catalog store before retiring in 1992. She was a member of the Mary Martha Circle at the First Christian Church in Maryville. She moved to St. Joseph in 2013 to live with her daughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, Gerald D and Myrtle A Whaley, three brothers, Gerald Jr, Dave, and Howard Whaley, an infant son Tommy Lane Porter, and a daughter Nancy Thomas. Surviving are her children, Carolyn Porter of the home; J. Wayne (Shawna) of Coalinga, CA, Donnie (Sandy) of Turney, MO., Eugene Porter and Douglas Porter, both of Maryville, son in law Mark Thomas, Rayville, MO., her sisters; Marguerite Beatrez, Fresno, CA, Dorothy Rich, of Olathe, KS, and Esther (Manual) Meade, of Kansas City, MO, a brother, John (Sylvia) Whaley of Cameron, MO, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services and interment will be conducted at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville, MO, at 11 am Friday, December 15, 2017, under the direction of the Rupp Funeral Home. Gertrude Eileen Giles
1918-2017

G. Eileen Giles, 99, of Sugarland, TX , formerly of Effingham, KS died Saturday, Dec. 9th, 2017 at the Memorial Hermann Sugarland Hospital, Sugarland, TX.

Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, Dec. 15h, 2017 at the Evergreen Cemetery, Effingham, KS . No visitation or service will be held. The Becker Chapel in Effingham is in charge of local arrangements.

Eileen Hargrove was born on June 15, 1918 in Effingham, KS the daughter of Otho and Ella (Scott) Hargrove. Survivors include a step daughter, Donna Giles, Houston, TX and several nieces and nephews.

Josephine “Joann” A. Teed
1935-2017


Josephine (Joann) A Teed 82, of Saint Joseph, Missouri passed away Tuesday December 12, 2017 at her home. She was born December 5, 1935 in St. Joseph, Missouri daughter of the late Goldie & Joe Mollus. She graduated from Convent of Sacred Heart, and worked at Stetson Hats as a hat creaser retiring after 25 years of service.
She enjoyed playing bingo and the slots, but most especially spending time with her children and grandchildren. Joann was preceded in death by her husband, Gary E. Teed, son, Michael Teed, her parents, and brother, Frank Mollus. She is survived by sons, Jeff (Tammy) Teed, Dave (Debbie) Teed, Steve ( Kari) daughters, Karen (Dick) Bowman, all of St Joseph, Chris Teed (Lawrence) of Colorado, Patty (Danny) Owens of St. Joseph. grandchildren: Chad Bowman (Christy Amos), Danny (Jamie) Teed, Michael Russell, Greg Carr (Stephanie Adams), Sumer Teed, Ali Whiting (Charlie), Dylan Wainscott, Brittney Bailey (Tyson), great grandchildren: Brooke Russell, Tyler Bowman, Haley Teed, Shane Carr, Audrey Beems, and Amiyah Whiting, sister, Shirley Collings, brothers: Leroy and Charlie Mollus of St. Joseph, MO, The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Friday at the Rupp Funeral Home to celebrate Joann’s life. She has been cremated under the care and direction of the Rupp Funeral Home. The inurnment will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery, at a later date.

Anna Marcella Morris
1917-2017


Anna Marcella Morris, 100, passed away December 12, 2017. She was born June 29, 1917, to Paul and Stella (Bosch) Bauman in St. Joseph, MO. Marcella married Earl Endell Morris, Jr., February 23, 1937. He preceded her in death November 26, 1986. She was a member of Huffman Memorial United Methodist Church for nearly 40 years. Marcella so enjoyed her years of service at J. C. Penney’s spent mostly in the men’s department. She had a lifelong sisterly relationship with her first cousin Margaret Ruth and her husband Howard Welsch. From this union are seven nieces and nephews who knew her as Aunt Marcella, Sherry Sansone, Roxanne Canfield, Pat Robinson, Rick Welsch, Kathy Welsch, Gina Compton (deceased) and Tom Welsch. A cousin, Ted Porter, also survives. Funeral visitation is Monday noon, December 18th followed by her service at 1 p.m. Interment following: Memorial Park Cemetery.

Dorothy A. Shalz
1923-2017


St. Joseph, Missouri Dorothy A. Shalz, 94, formerly of Wathena, Kansas passed away Thursday, December 14, 2017 in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Dorothy was born on June 23, 1923 in Wathena, Kansas to Lawrence E. & Mary E. (Banks) Miller.

She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Altar Society, American Legion Women’s Auxiliary & a lifetime member & past president of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary.

Dorothy married Francis L. Shalz on December 31, 1940 in Wathena, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 13, 1988. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 4 sons, Francis Wayne, Richard, Larry & Joey Shalz & a sister, Stella Schoenfelder.

Survivors: sons, Neil Shalz of St. Joseph, Missouri;

Don Shalz of Kansas City, Kansas;

Daughters, Linda Shalz of St. Joseph, Missouri;

Karen Hurd of St. Joseph, Missouri;

11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren & 5 great-great-grandchildren;

Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins & many friends.

Betty Jo Blanton
1935-2017

Betty Jo Blanton 82, of Wathena, Kansas passed away Friday December 15, 2017 in Wathena. She was born June 27, 1935 in St. Joseph, Missouri daughter of Mergie & Clarence Wineinger. She was a Homemaker. She loved puzzles, crochetting, reading books, volunteering at the Senior Center, and especially loved her grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Wineinger, mother, Mergie Delaney, brothers Richard and Max Wineinger, sisters, Dorothy Camberbeck and Emma McKinnon. She is survived by daughter, Debbie (Michael) Gillispie of St. Joseph, MO, daughter, Terry (Billy) Verbick of Faucett, MO, son, Richard (Sue) Blanton of Troy, KS, daughter, Bobbie Thompson of St. Joseph, MO, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild, sister, Donna Daugherty of Topeka, KS. She will be cremated under the care and direction of the Rupp Funeral Home. There are no services scheduled at this time.

Lorraine Clement
1921-2017


Lorraine Clement was born April 21, 1921, in Livingston County, Missouri, the daughter of Willard and Clara Dowell Parkey.

Lorraine died late Thursday evening, December 14, 2017, at Hiawatha Community Hospital, where she had been a patient since November 30. She was 96 and able to enjoy her apartment at the Maple Grove Senior Complex in Hiawatha for several years.

She attended schools in Missouri and Kansas, later received her GED from Highland Community College.

Lorraine worked at the United Department Store in St. Joseph, Missouri before her marriage. She was a homemaker and loved her family, gardening, reading, and crossword puzzles.

Mrs. Clement was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Hiawatha. Through the years, she enjoyed assisting with the many funeral lunches through the years. She was active in the projects of the United Methodist Women.

Lorraine married Lynn Clement, February 16, 1947 and had made Hiawatha their home since that time. He died December 26, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Harold, Chester, Roger, and Howard Parkey; and a sister Laveene Clayton.

Survivors include her sisters: Eva Sanson of Topeka, Donna Schnitker of Union Star, MO; sister in law Doris Parkey of Chillicothe, MO; many nieces and nephews.

Services are planned for 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Reverend Jacob Cloud will officiate. Interment will follow at Powhattan Cemetery.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will meet from 6 until 7:30 that evening.

Jerome Cleveland Richardson
1941-2017


Jerome Cleveland Richardson 76, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017 at his home. He was born March 5, 1941 in Boonville, MO. He graduated from Lafayette high school and served in the United States Navy. He worked at Kenworth Trucking as a Truck Mechanic, and enjoyed trout fishing at Bennett Springs, and gardening. Jerome was preceded in death by father, George Richardson, mother, Marjorie Elizabeth Olson, and brother, David Richardson. Survivors include daughter, Theresa White-Richardson, daughter, Sara (Todd) Charbonneau, and son, George Richardson, 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, two sister, Cheryl Meeks and sister, Carol Frump. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Thursday at the Rupp Funeral Home, with graveside funeral services and interment to be conducted on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 11:30 am, at the Blakely Cemetery.
