Gary Lee Rasdall, 74, of Effingham, KS died on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at the Mosaic Life Center, St. Joseph, MO.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the Becker Dyer Stanton Funeral Home, with Rev. Mark Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Effingham, KS. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 17th, 2018 at the Becker-Dyer Stanton Funeral Home, 800 Kansas Ave, Atchison , KS. Gary was born on August 14, 1943 in Kansas City, KS the son of Everett and Doris J. (Summers) Rasdall. He graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1961. Gary was a United States Air Force veteran serving from 1967 to 1971. He worked as a steelworker at the former LFM Foundry, Rockwell International, Atchison Casting and Bradken. He retired after 43 years. Gary was a member of the Larkinburg Christian Church and a member of the Ozawkie American Legion Post, the National Rifle Association and was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed hunting, and gardening. Mr. Rasdall was the MVP for three Air-Force Bases Fast Pitch Baseball Teams.
He was married to Joyce E. Sharp on August 15, 1964 in Effingham, KS. Mrs. Rasdall survives of the home in Effingham. Additional survivors include several nieces and nephews. His parents, two brothers, Eddie and Mick Rasdall, and a sister, Sharon Kuykendall preceded him in death.
Virginia A. Baker-Greer
1931-2018
Virginia A. Baker-Greer, 86, of Hiawatha Kansas passed away Wednesday, April11, 2018, at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
Virginia was born May 22, 1931, in Topeka, Kansas the daughter of Walter and Myrtle (Bailey) Wolf. Virginia grew up and attended Garden City High School in Garden City Kansas graduating with the class of 1949. She attended the College of Emporia where she met her husband Jack. They married June 14, 1953 and were married 54 years. Jack preceded her in death on October 4, 2007. Virginia married Dennis Greer in 2008.
Virginia worked as a secretary for Brown County Co-op, Novak and Lay, and The First Presbyterian Church in Hiawatha.
Virginia enjoyed doing silly things; jumping in puddles, water fights, picnics and fun pictures. She enjoyed traveling around Kansas looking for old time Soda Fountains and eating ice cream.
Virginia volunteered at the Hiawatha Community Hospital Gift Shop and Morrill Free Library Tea Committee. She loved sewing, quilting, journaling, scrapbooking and spending time with her family.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hiawatha.
Virginia is survived by her husband Dennis: sons, Rodger, Philip, Paul and Brian, Step-children Doug, Eric and Karen Greer.
Grandchildren: Michael, Brian, Taryn, Tyler, Ashley, Cortney, Julia and Katie
Step-Grandchildren: Jackie, Eric, Trenna, Jordan, Katie
Great-Grandchildren: Suzanne, Kaden, Braylen, Sophie, Rudy, Emory and Huxley
Sisters: Frances Shalla and Sandra Knowles.
Virginia was preceded in death by her daughter Suzanne Baker.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the memorial service which will be 11 A.M. Saturday April 14, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Hiawatha.

Opal L. Smith
1934-2018
Opal L. Smith, 83, of Hiawatha and formerly of Sabetha, Kansas died Thursday morning, April 12, 2018 at the Hiawatha Community Hospital.
She was born to Edward C. and Edna Mae Shaw Wardin on October 2, 1934 in Hiawatha, Kansas. She graduated from Hiawatha High School with the Class of 1953. She married J. Lee Smith in 1953 in Hiawatha, KS. They moved to Sabetha, Kansas and lived there for 55 years before she moved back to Hiawatha. He preceded her in death in 2005. She was a homemaker for several years before working for the Sabetha Community Hospital as a Medical Records Tech for 25 years.
Opal was a member of United Methodist Church in Sabetha before transferring her membership to First United Methodist Church in Hiawatha. She enjoyed sports, bingo, casino slots, and traveling. She was so proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Opal enjoyed going to as many events as possible of her kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother; Charles Wardin, sister; Eva Phillips, and a granddaughter Alli Faith Smith.
Survivors include her children; Steven (Susan) Smith of Jewett, TX, Terry (Pam) Smith of Hiawatha, KS, Anita (Ray) Dilla of Topeka, KS, Douglas (Debbie) Smith of Amarillo, TX, and Michael (Jamie) Smith of Kansas City, MO, sister; Margaret Tritsch of Hiawatha, KS, 9 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services are planned for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Pastor Nancy Tuma will officiate. Interment will follow at the Sabetha Cemetery in Sabetha, KS.
Friends may call the funeral home after 10 a.m Tuesday where the family will receive friends from 6:30p.m. – 8 p.m. that evening.

Linden W. Nold
1924-2018
WATHENA, KS – Linden W. Nold, age 93 passed away April 12, 2018. He was born to George C. Nold and Ethel Burch Nold, Wathena, KS, July 29, 1924; and was a lifetime resident of the Wathena area. He was married to Mary Ann Schoenfelder April 14, 1947 at St. Joseph Church, Wathena. She was the daughter of Albert and Elizabeth Shalz Schoenfelder, Wathena. After sharing 56 years together, she passed away December 20, 2003. He was also preceded by 4 siblings: Truman, Paul, Marvin Nold, Ruth Kaelin, and a grandson Ian Patrick Nold. Survivors include sons Mark (Catharine); Bruce (Jean); Paul (Mary Kay); and Eric (Carol); Daughters Lynn George (Robert); June; Elizabeth; Jenifer (John Gumula); Monica and Angela; Sisters-in-law, Angela Derks and Patricia Pelot. 21 grandchildren and 15 great grand-children. Lindy was very proud of his 21 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and generations of nieces and nephews.
He attended Wathena Grade School & Wathena High School. Lindy served in the Military during WWII for two years. After returning home, he took a short course in accounting at Gard Business School, St. Joseph, MO. Lindy and his wife Mary Ann, acquired sole ownership of Wathena Insurance Agency, Inc., retiring in 1993, after 33 years on “Main” Street.
Lindy was a past member of the Tri-County Banker’s Ass’n.; Kansas and National Ass’n. of Independent Insurance Agents; Professional Insurance Agents, Inc. with a stint as licensed Kansas Real Estate Broker. He was a 25 year member of the Wathena Volunteer Fire Department; He was a past president of Doniphan County Rural Water District #5. Lindy was a lifetime member of Wathena United Methodist Church; and a past president of Doniphan County Methodist Men’s Brotherhood. He was a past member of Geo. Ebeling VFW Post #3292, Severance, KS, transferring to and a current member of Doniphan County VFW Post #5531; past Chef De Gare of Voiture 1432, 40 & 8, Atchison, KS. He was a 69 year and current member of American Legion Post #161, Wathena, having served as Adjutant, Finance Officer, Joint Legion and VFW Firing Squad and a stint as Commander.
Funeral: Wednesday, April 18, 2018, 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church, Wathena, Kansas
Visitation: Tuesday, April 17, 2018, from 6-8 PM at Harman-Rohde Funeral Home, Wathena where friends may call after 12 Noon Monday.
Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wathena, with full Military Honors under the auspices of the American Legion Post #161 and VFW Post #5531, both of Wathena.

Melinda M. Combs
1939-2018
Beloved wife, Melinda Combs, passed away peacefully on April 7th 2018, surrounded by her loving family.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Combs, of the home. She also leaves 3 children; Deborah Gutteridge, of Kansas City, Lori Monger, of St. Joseph and Andy Irick of Broken Arrow, OK; 3 step-children, Jim Combs IV, of Kansas City, Susan Hoshor, of Nevada, IA and David Combs of Radford, VA, sadly missed by 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 1st Presbyterian Church in Albany, MO, conducted by Ray Offerdahl.
Her beautiful smile and loving ways will be missed by all.

Duane W. Heise
1935-2018
It is with great sadness that the family of Duane W. Heise announces his passing on Saturday, January 27th at the age of 82 in Ramona, CA after a brief illness.
Duane was born October 27,1935 in Hamlin, Kansas to Arthur and Mary (Walgemuth) Heise. He graduated from Hamlin High School in 1953, and the University of Kansas in 1960. He also served in the Air Force Reserves for six years. Duane was employed as an electrical engineer in the aerospace industry until his retirement. From the time Duane was a young man until his illness made him stop he loved using his Amateur Radio (HAM), he was known to many as AA6EE his call sign. He enjoyed working outside on his property as well as watching the University of Kansas Jayhawks Basketball team, especially during March Madness. He also enjoyed being the family historian and transcribing his mother’s diaries for the whole family to enjoy for years to come.
Duane will be lovingly remembered by his wife Dianne of 54 years and his children Charleen (Dan) Miller, Mark (Tobi) Heise, and Melanie (Chris) Carver. His seven grandchildren Kristin, Ethan, Justin, Connor, Cameron, Caitlin, and Eli will also fondly remember Duane, as will his sister Eileen, and brothers Austin (Rhoda) and Eugene (Harriett), many nieces, nephews, and extended family. His parents Arthur and Mary Heise preceded him in death.
A visitation will be from 12:00pm -1:00pm on April 21st at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home 124 S. 7th Street Hiawatha, Kansas, with a procession to follow to Pleasant Hill Cemetery, north of Hamlin, for graveside services and flag folding.

Robert J. “Bob” Lehew
1938-2018
Robert J. “Bob” Lehew, 79, of rural Hiawatha, died early Saturday, April 14, 2018, at his home.
Bob was born December 7, 1938, at Horton, KS, the son of Roy Joseph and Clara Grace Ham Lehew and had lived all of his life in the Hiawatha area. He grew up at Hiawatha where he attended schools, graduating from high school with the class of 1956. While in school, Bob was 4 H president and FFA president. He married Edna Lee Backhus, June 4, 1994 in Hiawatha.
Bob was a certified AI tech (artificial insemination) and traveled to area farms to breed cattle. He worked for the US Government at bin grain storage sites, but was a lifelong farmer at heart. He took continuing education in several construction training programs. He was a residential and commercial construction worker and supervisor, and later owned his own construction company. He loved farming, raising a garden, canning, hunting, trapping, fishing, and collecting John Deere memorabilia. Bob helped anyone he could if he saw a need.
Survivors include his wife Edna; children: Michael (Melody) Lehew, Teri (Ron) Hand, Connie (John) Angrisani, Greggory (Cyndi) Lehew. Tricia (Eric) Perez; step-children: Billy (Cheryl) Baker, Cheryl (Seth) Tarwater; brothers; Richard (Luella) Marker, Harry (Susan) Lehew; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 5 nieces and 1 nephew.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; mother in law Grace Backhus, 4 aunts and 4 uncles.
It was Bob’s wish to be cremated with a Celebration of his life planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at Zion Lutheran Church of Hiawatha, with Pastor Michael Dunaway officiating. Inurnment will follow at Hiawatha Cemetery.
The family will meet with friends from 9:30-10:30 prior to services.

Billy Ellis Keith
1927-2018
Billy Ellis Keith 90, of Faucett, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2018 at his home. He was born May 7, 1927 in Wellington, MO, son of the late Gladys and Alpha Keith. He served in the United States Army and is a veteran of the Korean War. He retired as a supervisor at the Buchanan County Western District Road Department, retired from Dugdale Meat Packing at its closing, and he also Farmed. He enjoyed fishing, going to the sale barn, raising cattle and helping neighbors with their cattle, raising tobacco, gardening. He also enjoyed fish fry’s, having coffee at the Farris Truck Stop, and shooting the bull. He was a people person who enjoyed helping others, and he will be missed by his family and friends. Billy was a member of Faucett Betterman Club and the Wallace Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Clarence, Buddy, and Kenneth Keith. Survivors include, wife, Barbara Ann Keith of the home, daughters, Chris (Lonnie) Davis, St. Joseph, MO, Debby Catron, LaBelle, MO, and Deena Weyer of St. Joseph, son, Bobby (Teresa) Keith, Cameron, MO, 10 grandchildren: Crystal, Anthony, Steven, Dennis, Aleesha, Darrin, Brittany, Melissa, Ashley, and Tyler, 13 great grandchildren, brother, Walter (Sandra) Keith, Atlanta, GA, sisters, Frances “Fannie” (Bob) Boyer, Twila “Sissy” Sauter, and Shirley Wilson, sister in law, Lois Keith, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. WATHENA,KS John H. Ward, 66, of Gower, Missouri formerly of Wathena, Kansas died Sunday, April 15, 2018 at a St. Joseph, Missouri hospital.
John was born on February 10, 1952 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Harold and Theresa (Sayles) Ward. John worked as a glass glazier most of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Janice Medsker.
