St. Joseph Mustangs split a doubleheader at Chillicothe Tuesday as they lost game one 6-2 and won the nightcap 2-1.
St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team is now 15-11 and 13-10 in the MINK League.
In game one, after the Mustangs took a 1-0 lead in the first, the Mudcats scored two runs in the first inning and three more in the third.
St. Joseph had only four hits as Mason Janvrin led the way doubled, tripled, scored one run and drove in one run. Aaron Dees and Colton Eremian had the other two hits.
Mustangs’ starter Adam Thies made his debut Tuesday and he allowed five runs and four hits in just three inning of work.
In game two, each team scored one run in the first inning and then St. Joe took the lead for good with a run in the fifth.
Joseph Hietpas improve to 3-1 this season as he threw a complete game six hitter. He struck out 14 and allowed just six hits.
Zach Smith and Joshua Lincoln led the Mustangs with two hits each
The Mustangs have Wednesday off as the MINK League All-Star game takes place tonight in Joplin at 7:00 o’clock.
