Wayne Edwin Hale
1939-2018


Wayne Edwin Hale, 78, of Atchison KS died on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, July 8th, 2018 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Matt Broxterman officiating. The body will be cremated following the visitation and service and burial will be at a later date in the Corpus Christi Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 pm on Saturday, July 7th, 2018 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Atchison High School Golden Grads or the C.O. Wayne E. Hale was born on October 31, 1939, in Atchison, KS the son of Adrain and Christina (Kautz) Hale. He graduated from Atchison High School in 1957. Wayne served in the United States Army. He worked as a yardman for the former Beverly Lumber Co., Atchison before owning and operating the Hale House, which held receptions out of their home on K Highway 7. Wayne was baptized at the First Christian Church and enjoyed mowing his yard, wood working, and was a caregiver for his parents and family members.

He was married to Constance Lemke on January 27, 1968 at the Corpus Christi Church, Mooney Creek. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include a daughter, Barbara (Joe) Portenier, Atchison, KS, and three grandchildren, Amanda, Alexis and Austin Goehner. His parents preceded him in death.

John Marion Roberton
1936-2018


John Marion Roberton 82, of Saint Joseph, Missouri passed away Monday July 2, 2018 at Mosaic life care hospital, in St Joseph. He was born February 15, 1936 in Abilene, Kansas son of the late Louise & John Roberton. He graduated from Troy High School, and retired from Armour and Company meat packing after many years of service. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. John was preceded in death by his parents, son, William F. Roberton, brothers, Lawrence, Jim and Donnie Roberton. Survivors include sons, Thomas (Sheila) Roberton, and Timothy Roberton of St. Joseph, MO, sister, Mary Beerman, brothers, Larry, and Dale Roberton, grandchildren, Timothy, Chris, Paul and Daniel Roberton, granddaughter, MaLinda McDermit. Nine great grand children. The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm Monday, with a memorial service following starting at 2:00 pm Monday, July 9, 2018 at the Rupp Funeral Home. Robert Dean “Bobby” Sale
1955-2018

Robert Dean “Bobby” Sale, 62, of Leona, surround by family, passed away early Tuesday morning July 3, 2018, at his home.

Bobby was born at St. Joseph, MO, October 6, 1955. He grew up in St. Joseph where he attended school. Bobby worked mostly in trash service in St. Joseph prior to working in the tobacco fields near Weston, Missouri. He enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles and four wheelers, and working on vehicles.

He was married Kelly Jeffrey, March 19, 2005, at Lansing, KS. They lived all of their married life at Leona. She survives of the home.

Also surviving are his children Randy Ninemires, Raven Sale, Shonia Struck, Bobby Lee Biship, Jody Riddle; step-son Caleb Jeffrey; his siblings: Dorothy, Larry, Richard, and Linda; and 9 grandchildren.

Bobby was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Casteel; brother Charles Eversole; brother in law Elmer Purvis.

The family will meet with friends from 6 until 7 Thursday evening at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland. Funeral Services are planned for 11 a.m. Friday, July 6, at Chapel Oaks in Highland, with burial to follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Leona.

Deborah June Budd
1952-2018


Deborah June Budd 65, of St Joseph, passed away Monday, July 2, 2018 at a local health care facility. She was born July 15, 1952 in Hillsdale, MI, daughter of Barbara (Carothers) and Donald Lambertson. She graduated from Hillsdale High School, class of 1970 and Cerro Coso Community College in 1993. She worked at Casey’s General Store. Deborah enjoyed board games, puzzles, music, and art. She also enjoyed singing. Deborah was a member of Grace Evangelical Church. Preceding her in death are her parents and brother, Dennis Lambertson. Survivors include, son, Tristan (Veronica) Budd of Suffolk, VA, brothers, Donald (Donna) Lambertson, Jr. and Alan Lambertson, sisters, Cindy Reents, and Sally (Jeff) Lonk, grandchildren, Charles and Scarlett Budd, friends, Kim (Bruce) Brown of Saint Joseph and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ms. Budd has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home. Memorial service to be held at a later date. Deborah had a special place in her heart for children with clefts. Please direct memorials to Operation Smile.

John Fuhrman
1939-2018


John David Fuhrman, 79, Lancaster, Kansas died on Tuesday, July 3rd, 2018 at the Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, MO.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 7th, 2018 at the Lancaster United Methodist Church with Rev. Seth Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in the Lancaster Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 pm on Friday, July 6th, at the Becker Dyer Stanton Funeral Home. John was born on April 26, 1939 in Lancaster, KS the son of Karl and Bertha (Buttron) Fuhrman. He graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1957 and received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Kansas State University in 1961. He served his country in the Missouri Air National Guard. John worked for Farmland Industries as an auditor and later as a CPA for Bailey & Fuhrman.
Farming was John’s passion. John and his brother, Kent, farmed and managed Fuhrman Brothers farming operation for many years. After Kent’s death, John went on to farm with his nephew, Mike, until his retirement.
John was a member of the United Methodist Church, Lancaster, and was a founding member of Rural Water District #5. He received the 2017 Wildlife Habitat Conservation Award for his efforts to enhance and preserve the wildlife resources of the state of Kansas. John enjoyed gardening, collecting antiques, being at The Lake of the Ozarks, and, most of all, helping friends and neighbors.
John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Greta (Adcock) Fuhrman whom he married on June 12, 1965. Greta resides in Lancaster. Additional survivors include a son, Shawn Fuhrman, and his fiancée, Lauren Waller, Sunrise Beach, MO, and a daughter, Christy (Anthony) Case, Grand Rapids, MI, and two grandsons, Henry and Thomas Case. His parents and a brother, Kent Fuhrman, preceded him in death.

Isabelle Willmeth
1926-2018


Isabelle E. Willmeth, 92, of Atchison, KS died on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at the Atchison Senior Village.

Funeral services will be 3:00 pm on Monday, July 9th, 2018 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Joseph Hansen , Pastor of the Carol Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens, Atchison KS. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Sunday, July 8th, at the funeral home. Isabelle E. Graves was born on March 29, 1926 in Atchison, KS the daughter of Willis and Bertha (Kelsay) Graves. She graduated from Atchison High School in 1943. She worked as a cook for the Franklin Grade School, then as head clerk for the former Safeway Grocery Store, and was a homemaker and housewife.
Mrs. Willmeth was a charter member of the Carol Baptist Church where she was an active member, serving as a Sunday School Teacher for over 50 years, and was the Mission Treasurer for many years. She was a Cub Scout Leader, Den Mother, and Pack Leader for Pack #54 and a former member of the Christian Women’s Association. Mrs. Willmeth enjoyed crocheting, canning and traveling.

She was married to Warren L. Willmeth on May 19, 1949 at Carol Baptist Church. Mr. Willmeth preceded her in death on Dec. 14, 1993. Survivors include three sons, Warren (Joan) Willmeth, Rolling Meadows, Ill, Wayne Willmeth, Kansas City, KS and Willis “Willie” (Patty) Willmeth, Leavenworth, KS, two sisters, Mary Ann Brewer, and Minnie Graves, both of Atchison, KS, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her parents and husband preceded her in death.

Brenda Sue Baines
1957-2018


Brenda S. Baines 61, of Atchison, Kansas, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, KS. She was born June 25, 1957 in St. Joseph, MO. She graduated from Benton High School class of 1975, and was the Basketball homecoming queen, she worked at Mead Products, Peach Tree Door, Russel Stover Candies, and worked in Home Health care industry. She had a great quirky sense of humor, and a very strong Christian faith, she enjoyed her work with the Head Start program, long motorcycle rides, traveling, but most of all she loved her grandchildren, family and her dog Autumn. She was a member of the New Life Assembly of God, Atchison, KS. Brenda was preceded in death by step mother, Dorothy Maxine Nutt, father, George James Nutt, daughter, Erica Alsbury, and step son, Tanner Baines. Survivors include, husband, Jack Baines of Atchison, KS, mother, Vernis & Jim Roberts, St. Joseph, MO., daughter, Jessica Alsbury, son, Josh (Tiffany) Alsbury of St. Joseph, MO, step daughter, Ashley (Rick) Bottorff, Kidder, MO, grandchildren, Jaybree and Ryder Alsbury, Lane, Dylan, Noah, and Rilee Bottorff, brother, James (Annie) Nutt, Jr., Weston, MO, sisters, Linda (Roger) Hanken and and Laura Nutt of St. Joseph, MO, and numerous, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

Donald Eugene Harris
1951-2018

Donald Eugene Harris, 67, of Atchison KS died on Wednesday, July 4, 2018.

Donald E. Harris was born on March 3, 1951 in Jackson County, MO the son of Bryan and Naomi L. (McFeeters) Harris. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a truck driver for Kraft Foods. Mr. Harris was a member of V.F.W. Post # 1175, Atchison, KS and enjoyed riding motorcycles.

Survivors include three sons, Gerald B. Harris, Palmetto, FL, Donald E. Harris, II, Buffalo, MO, and Matthew Harris, Springfield, MO, two daughters, Tamera Falvalla, Palmetto FL, and Miranda Harris Jacobs, Richland, MO a brother, Mike Harris, Atchison and a sister, Patricia Navinskey, Atchison, and thirteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren. His parents and brother, Ken Harris preceded him in death.

Geraldine Fern Leach
1931-2018


Geraldine “Gerry” Fern Leach, 87, of St. Joseph, passed over Saturday July 7, 2018 at Mosaic Life Care. She was born March, 19, 1931 in Hemple, MO to Nancy Josephine and James Maddox. She attended school in the Plattsburg, MO area. She retired from Cordonnier’s Place in 1991. Gerry enjoyed playing bingo, quilting, helping plan the Maddox Family Reunion, listening to classic country music and watching John Wayne movies. Gerry was preceded in death by her husband, Roy D. Leach, daughter, Janet Russell, son-out-law, Kenny Vertin, great-granddaughter, Quortney Faye Flint and siblings, Helen Colley, Alice “Stuppy” Aitkens, James “Buster” Maddox, Bertha Mitchell, Louise Danner, W.A. Maddox, Ruth Veraguth and Lowell “Peeler” Maddox.Survivors include her daughters, Cheryl Davis of Wathena, KS, Cathy Vertin and Darla Leach of St. Joseph, 14 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 33 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Ms. Leach has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, at Rupp Funeral Home. A Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Rupp Funeral Home. Inurnment will be held at Ashland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Gerry Leach Memorial Fund, c/o Rupp Funeral Home.
