PHELPS COUNTY— One person died in an accident just before 4:30p.m. Saturday in Phelps County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported 71-year-old Leon Saxton, Jr. of Newburg lost control of a 2018 Harley Davidson motorcycle as he accelerated rapidly from a standing start in the 2400 Block of Highway P five miles west of Jerome.

The motorcycle traveled down an embankment and struck a tree.  Saxton was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to Teague Funeral Home.
