JASPER COUNTY — One person died in an accident just before 1p.m. Friday in Jasper County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2016 Mercedes Benz Sprinter 3500 driven by  Caleb D. Brainard, 25, Blue Springs, was eastbound on Interstate 44 one mile east of Sarcoxie. The vehicle rear-ended a semi stopped in traffic due to heavy congestion ahead.

Brainard was pronounced dead at the scene.  The semi driver from Florida was not injured. Brainard was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, according to the MSHP.
