William Joseph “Bill” Hines”
1927-209

William Joseph “Bill” Hines, 91, of Lancaster, KS died on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at his home in Lancaster, KS.

Funeral services will be 1:30 pm on Friday, Feb. 1, 2019 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Neill officiating. Burial will follow in the Lancaster Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, Jan. 31st, 2019 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Atchison Hospital Hospice or the Lancaster Cemetery Association and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Bill was born on Sept. 13, 1927 in Atchison Kansas the son of Samuel K. and Norine (Herbst) Hines. He attended Shannon grade school and graduated from Atchison County Community High School, Effingham in 1944. He celebrated his 18th birthday in the Pacific aboard the “USS Iowa” in charge of a 5” gun mount. He returned home after World War II aboard the “Iowa” as a 3rd Class Petty Officer. He was married to Shirley Jeanne Grame on Nov. 29th, 1953. She passed away on April 4, 1958. He married Joanna “Jo” Bewley on Dec. 22, 1962 in Holton, KS. Bill was self employed as a carpenter and farmer. He was the 3rd generation to farm the Hines farm north of Shannon. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post # 1175, and the American Legion Post # 6, of Atchison and a former member of the NFO (National Farmers Organization). Bill served 12 years as Treasurer of the Lancaster Township. He enjoyed woodworking and his garden.

Survivors include his wife Joanna Hines of the home, two daughters, Teri (Thayne) Ramsey, St. Joseph, MO, and Cheryl (Tom) Hawk, Effingham, KS, two sons Rex (Kathy) Hines, Atchison, and Kent (Stephanie) Hines, Eldon, MO, two granddaughters Sarah and Molly, seven step grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. His parents, first wife, Shirley, two sisters Carlene Hicks, and Ardenna Henning, one grandson Toby Schrader and one step great granddaughter preceded him in death.

 

Dorothy A Hadley
1925-2019

Dorothy A Hadley 93, of Savannah, Missouri, passed away Monday, January 28, 2019 in a Savannah, MO. health care center. She was born February 28, 1925 in St. Joseph, MO, daughter of the late Alice and James Alvin Stewart. She was a homemaker and farmer with her husband, and continued farming for 20 years after her husbands death in 1965, and she was a Christian. Dorothy was preceded in death by husband, Milton Hadley, her parents, a daughter Helen Frances Hadley, a son Edward Cyrus Hadley, seven brothers & sisters. Survivors include, six daughter: Linda (Kenneth) Kretzer, Savannah, MO, Jerrie Ann (Alec “Sonny”) Hovey, Cosby, MO, Alice M. (Mark) Gariepy, New Draunsels, TX, Betty “Dorothy” (Larry) Kretzer, Savannah, MO, Vera Chadwick, St. Joseph, MO, and Sheila R. (Sy) Miller, Overland Park, KS, 20 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren 23 great great grandchildren, a brother, Richard Stewart, Denver, CO, sister, Jean Hall of Anchorage, AK, and a sister in law, Shirley Stewart, Ohio.

Funeral services: 10:00 am, Monday, February 4, 2019 at Rupp Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery . Memorials are requested to the Arbor Foundation, American Cancer Society, or Alzheimer’s association.

 

James “Jim” F. Sears
1943-2019

James “Jim” F. Sears 75 of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away peacefully Sunday, January 27, 2019 at his home. He was born May 9, 1943 in St. Joseph, MO to the late Rachel and William E. Sears.

At age 17 Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army and served 4 years. Upon his discharge, he moved to Wichita, KS to attend computer trade school, where he met and married his wife, Martha. They continued to live in Wichita, KS for 30 years. During this time, Jim also volunteered as a Sheriff Reserve for 13 years, and then an additional 13 years as an EMS Reserve. In 1997, they returned to live in St. Joseph, MO. for the remainder of his life. During this time, he was employed by the Missouri Department of Corrections State Prison, until his retirement in 2008. After his retirement, he continued 2 days a week volunteering over 900 hours to the Department of Corrections assisting the Warehouse staff, Employee Benefit Fair, Special Olympics benefit golf tournament, staff cookouts, family day and much more. One of his most treasured moments was having them name him Employee of the Month in March 2017 for being a genuinely kind, caring, helpful person and an excellent example of professionalism. He enjoyed traveling the mid-west, riding his motorcycle, going to classic car shows, fairs and events. Most will remember him for his love of family and friends and his annual birthday phone calls, along with his never-ending compassion to always be there when they needed a helping hand. Or, just to stop by to say ‘Hey’ and visit awhile. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; seven sisters: Olliemay McQuiston; Delma Sears; Thelma Sears; Julia Sears; Darlene Kriner; Glendola “Yvonne” Morse; Esther “Roberta” Kunzler, six brothers: Thomas “Sonny” Sears; Raymond Sears; Kenneth Sears; Earl Sears; Dale Sears; and Charles Sears. Survivors include wife, Martha Sears (St Joseph, Mo.); daughter, Connie (Brian) Salmon (Roseburg, OR); son, John (Natalie) Sears (Eureka, KS); one brother, Delbert (Linda) Sears (Sterling, CO); 1 grandson; 5 step grandchildren; and 14 step great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m Friday, February 1, 2019 at the Rupp Funeral Home. Mr. Sears has been cremated under the care of the Rupp Funeral Home.

 

Joann Irene Stewart
1935-2019

Joann Irene Stewart 83, of Saint Joseph, Missouri passed away Monday January 28, 2019 at Mosaic Life Care Hospital. She was born June 18, 1935 in St. Joseph, Missouri. She was a first generation American as her parents Stanley and Anita Salata, who preceded her in death were born in Poland. She graduated from St. Stanislaus and Benton high school class of 1952. She enjoyed a long career in bookkeeping, accounting & credit management. She was a former member of St. James Catholic Church, and enjoyed Pinochle and bowling. Joann was preceded in death by her parents, grandchildren: Demetria and Robert White, and brother, Tom J. Salata. She is survived by daughters, Georgi Stewart, and Kathy R. (K.C.) Stewart-Holt both of St. Joseph, MO, brother, Edward (Bernice) Salata, Sabata, CA, grandchildren: Brandon (Valerie) White, Donovan (Renee) Stewart, great grandchildren, Bianca, Dominic, Kalea, Tyrese, and Isaiah, as well as many friends. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm on Friday, with a memorial services following at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2019 at the Rupp Funeral Home. She will be cremated under the care and direction of the Rupp Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to the St. James Renovation Fund or St. Jude’s Hospital.
