John Chavez Jr.
1939 – 2019
John Chavez Jr. 79, of Saint Joseph, MO passed away Thursday, February 21, 2019 at his home. He was born June 23, 1939 in Crow Agency, MT, son of the late Rose and John Chavez Sr. He graduated from Christian Brothers High School and attended the Air Force Community College, Military Studies. He married Karen Penland on March 18, 1965 and she survives of the home. He retired from the United States Air Force as a Master Sergeant, and is a veteran of the Vietnam War, and is the recipient of the Meritorious Service medal, the Commendation Medal Republic of Vietnam for gallantry, Cross with Palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Air Force Achievement medal. After his 24 years of service in the Air Force, he worked at the United States Postal Service and retired after 14 years of service. He loved his family time, watching old westerns, hunting, and fishing. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Cathedral Catholic Church, and the American Legion post #359. John was preceded in death by his parents, grand daughter Aeryn Boyles, brother, Anthony Chavez, sisters, Connie Walsh, and Elizabeth Chavez. Survivors include wife, Karen Sue Chavez of the home, five children: Christina Weekly, John (Donna) Chavez III, Gina (Peggy) Chavez, Angela (Jeff) Boyles, and Robert (Stephanie) Chavez, all of St. Joseph, 15, grandchildren, 16, great grandchildren, brothers, Fred Chavez, Paul (Bonnie) Chavez, and Charles (Vicki) Chavez, sisters, Priscilla Willoughby, Rose Damian, Alice Derry, Patricia (Michael) Magana, Mary Chavez, and Maxine Calderon, and brother in law Tony Walsh all of St. Joseph, MO., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 25, 2019, at 10:00 am at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, Fr. Stephen Hansen Celebrant. The Rosary will be recited at 12:30 pm, Sunday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery. Military honors under the auspices of the United States Air Force. Memorials are requested to St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church. Connie Diana Thornton
1955 – 2019
Connie Diana Thornton 63, of St. Joseph, MO. passed away Friday, February 22, 2019 in St. Joseph. She was born November 28, 1955 in St. Joseph, Missouri, daughter of the late Elaine & Lowell VanSchoiack. She married Kenny Thornton on February 28, 1975, and he survives of the home. She graduated from Savannah High School, and worked at various places as a Caregiver for the elderly. She enjoyed collecting dolls, the color purple and working with the elderly. She was a member of the Deer Park Grace United Methodist Church. Connie was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Dawn Dianna Thornton, brother, Ray VanSchoiack, and brother in law, Michael Leroy Thornton. She is survived by husband, Kenneth “Kenny” Thornton of the home, son, Jamie Thornton, St. Louis, MO, grandsons, Charles Skyler Thornton and Jamie Kyle Thornton, sister, Carla (Jeff) Evans of Mesa, AZ, and sister in law, Charlotte (Jerry) Anderson. The family would like to give a special thanks to Cindy our home health nurse, Mosaic Life Care, the Cancer Center Staff for their kind and caring service. Charles Hugh Buster, 83, Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at home.
He was born December 22, 1935.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, David and Ruth (Nelson) Buster; brother, David Nelson Buster and sister, Cynthia Buster-Holiman.
Survivors include his sister, Judith Pringle.

Jerry Joe Flinn
1939 – 2019
Jerry Joe Flinn, 79, Stewartsville, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at Carriage Square Nursing Home, St. Joseph, Missouri.
He was born on May 17, 1939, in Stewartsville.
Jerry married Naomi Jean (Anderson) Flinn on September 26, 1957. She preceded him in death after 46 years of marriage on October 19, 2003.
He was a machinist at Wire Rope for 38 years. Jerry was also a member of the American Legion Post #508 and an officer of the United Steelworkers of America. He was of the Christian faith, an avid softball and basketball player, and coached youth softball. Jerry loved watching his grandchildren play sports and was a great supporter of the community of Stewartsville.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Lurane and Josephine (Dake) Flinn; daughter, Terri Smith; and granddaughter, Ashley Smith.
Survivors include his sons, Jay Flinn (Holly) and Rodney Flinn (Amy); seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Jim Flinn (Nancy), Larry Flinn (Barb), Jackie Guggia (Jim), Kelly Bachman, Mike Flinn (Janet), and Pat Brouilette (Ron); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jolene Edwards, 66, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2019.
She was born June 6, 1952 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Jolene retired from Heartland Health Systems after 37 years of employment.
She was preceded in death by her son, Paul Kinard; parents, Albert and Wilma (Townsend) Montemayor; sister, Barbara Hawkins; brothers, Karl and Keith Montemayor.
Survivors include daughter, Brandi Gilgour (Lee); grandchildren, Greyson, Colt, Gannon and Caden; brothers, John and Ted Montemayor; sisters, Karen Dydell, Judy Plymell; significant other, Don Donelson; step-children, Dustin and Ashley Donelson.

Frances “Ann” M. (Bibb) Carter
1933 – 2019
WATHENA, KANSAS – Frances “Ann” M. (Bibb) Carter, 85, of Wathena, Kansas passed away Friday, February 22, 2019 at a nursing home in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Ann was born on November 4, 1933 in Troy, Kansas to Henry and Helen (Herrington) Bibb. She worked at Missouri Western State College as a clerk.
Ann is a member of the First Baptist Church in Blair, Kansas.
She married Harold Suman on December 24, 1953. He preceded her in death in 1979. Ann later married Clarence “Terry” Carter on January 17, 1981. He preceded her in death on November 9, 2003. She was also preceded by her parents, brothers, Vincent and Joe Bibb, sisters; Mildred Bunch, Ella Koehler, Audrey Clinton and a daughter-in-law, Danielle Suman.
Survivors include her children, Sonnie (Marge) Suman, Gena Fuqua (Rickie Brandenburg), Carolyn Dobson (Dennis Smith), Harold Suman and Joe (Lindy) Suman; Brother, Henry Bibb (Betty Hunt); Numerous step-children; 20 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
