The Lafayette boys and Benton girls each came up short in their Class 4 sectional games on Tuesday at Liberty North high school. The Fighting Irish lost to Kansas City Southeast 61-55, while the no. 1 ranked Cardinals were upset by Lincoln Prep 51-34.
After falling behind early Tuesday night, Lafayette battled back and took a 28-25 lead at the half against Southeast. But the Fighting Irish struggled with turnovers in the third quarter and the Knights outscored LHS 20-12 in the quarter and never trailed again.
Ike Book led Lafayette with 17 points as they end their season 18-8.
The Benton girls struggled all night Tuesday against Lincoln Prep and they never led in the game. The Cardinals made just two first half field goals as they were down 15-3 after the first quarter and 29-8 at halftime.
Benton wasn’t able to make a serious ran at Lincoln Prep as they trailed 31-15 after three quarter and never got the deficit under 11 points.
Gabby Fuller led the Cardinals with 12 as they end their season 23-3.
