Linda Sue Fanning
1950 – 2019

Linda Sue “Teddy” Fanning, 68, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away peacefully Friday, April 5, 2019 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, surrounded by her family.

She was born May 6, 1950 in St. Joseph, daughter of Mabel and Fred Bray. Teddy married her grade school sweetheart, Virgil Fanning on May 3, 1991. She enjoyed time with her sister, Rosemary. She loved sitting at her kitchen table and coloring. She also loved her family very much. Teddy enjoyed sitting on her front porch, watching the neighborhood children play, which often called her Grandma.

Teddy was preceded in death by mother, Mabel Cannon, father, Fred Bray and brother, Jerry Bray.

Survivors include, husband, Virgil Fanning of the home, daughter, Rose Cooper, daughter, Carol Williams, sister, Rosemary Jehorek, all of Saint Joseph, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at Rupp Funeral Home, Pastor Rob Diamond officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Mount Auburn Cemetery. Memorials are requested to the COPD Foundation.

 

Marian Ruth Lewman
1932 – 2019

Marian R. Lewman, 86, of Saint Joseph, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2019 at a Oregon, MO Care Center.

She was born August 15, 1932 in Barnes County, ND, daughter of Esther and AI Kiser. She graduated from Rogers High School, class of 1950. She married Calvin Lewman on November 1, 1953 in Rogers, ND. She was an avid quilter and loved to read.

Marian was preceded in death by husband, Calvin Lewman, father, AI Kiser, mother, Esther Kiser, daughter, Susan Ryder, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

Survivors include, son, David Lewman of Omaha, NE, grandson, Zackeria Ryder of Gracy, KY, grandson, K. William Ryder of Princeton, KY, grandson, Geoffrey Ryder of Louisville, KY, brother-in-law, Grady Crawford of Coon Rapids, MN, son-in-law, Kevin Ryder of Elkton, KY, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10 at the Rupp Funeral Home. An additional family visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2019 at Derfelt Funeral Home in Oswego, KS. Graveside Funeral Services and Interment will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2019 at the Oswego Cemetery, Oswego, Kansas. Memorials are requested to the American Red Cross- flood relief efforts.

 

Duane L. “Bub” Hazlett, Jr.
1962 – 2019

Duane L. “Bub” Hazlett, Jr., 56, of Onaga, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at his home.

He was born May 24, 1962 in Topeka, the son of Duane L. Hazlett, Sr. and Joyce D. Burks Hazlett. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1980. While at Topeka High he lettered in four sports and was the starting quarterback his senior year.

Bub was involved in many sports activities and had managed the Sharks Baseball team in Topeka.

He worked in the Water Treatment Department for the City of Topeka for nearly twenty years before he retired due to health reasons.

Bub was preceded in death by his parents, Duane L. Hazlett, Sr. and Joyce D. Gibson.

Survivors include his siblings, Peter Whitebird (Judy), Topeka, Donna Baker (Dale), Topeka, Pam McGimpsey (William), Langley, OK, and Kelli Lambert, Topeka, his companion, Maia Fitzpatrick, Bridgeport, CT and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and family members in Arkansas and Kansas City, KS.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 12th at the Highland Park Baptist Church in Topeka. Family and friends will meet from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. before the service. A dinner will follow the service at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Topeka High Boys Athletic Department, and may be sent in care of the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, PO Box 1034, Holton, 66436.

 

Melvin Franklin Kerns
1941 – 2019

Melvin Kerns, 77, of Saint Joseph, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2019 in Saint Joseph.

Melvin was born November 30, 1941 in St. Joseph, son of Clara and Raymond Kerns. He graduated from Lafayette High School and later served in the U.S. Navy. Melvin loved hunting and fishing.

Preceding him in death are his parents and sister, Audrey. Survivors include children, David Kerns, Rick Kerns, Joe Kerns, Rob Franks, and Mark; siblings, Lonnie Kerns, Jessie Kerns and Zelda Huff; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at Rupp Funeral Home. Mr. Kerns will be cremated following visitation. Memorials are requested to Melvin Kerns Memorial Fund, c/o Rupp Funeral Home.

 

Caroline F. Klawuhn
1932 – 2019

Caroline F. Klawuhn, 86, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, April 5, 2019.
She was born October 1, 1932.

Caroline graduated from Benton High School. She married Jerry Klawuhn June 30, 1953; he preceded her in death on December 12, 2006. Caroline was a seamstress at Worlds of Fun. She was a longtime member of Sweet Adelines and loved square dancing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Elizabeth (Elam) Kline; son, Joel Klawuhn and brother, James Kline.

Survivors include sons, Jamie Klawuhn, Jason Klawuhn, Jack Klawuhn; daughter, Jeannie Nordstron; sisters, Marilyn Browning, Elaine Chirieleison, Elizabeth Atkison; brothers, Fred Kline, Bud Kline, John Kline; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Charlene V. Brunk
1925 – 2019

Charlene Virginia(Mulvaney)Brunk, 93, St. Joseph, MO died Friday, April 5, at her daughter’s (Sandra Meeks) home in St. Joseph, MO.

Charlene had been an employee of Big Smith and St. Joseph State Hospital both for 11 years. She also enjoyed quilting,making quilts and crocheting.

Charlene was born Aug.12,1926 in Bigaloo, MO. She was married to Edgar Wayne Brunk on Nov.19,1943 and were both members of the Gaynor Methodist Church.

Charlene was preceded in death by her husband Edgar Wayne Brunk; parents, James M. and Ruby O. (Gallop) Mulvaney; four brothers, Harold Mulvaney, Lloyd Mulvaney, infant brother, James Mulvaney; three sisters, Wilma Adams, Francis Mulvaney, Shirley Miller; son-in-law, Jimmy Meeks and grandson, Joshua Bix.

She is survived by her two daughters, Sandra (Brunk) Meeks of St. Joseph, MO, Sharon Brunk and Glenn Bix of Hopkins, MO; five grandchildren and their spouses,Glenda(Bix-Stringer) and Gordon Craven of Grant City, MO, Larry and Melody(Burgess) Bix of Hopkins,MO, Jerime and Amber(Brumfield) Bix of Sheridan, MO, Tara(Meeks) and Albert Bass of Liberty, MO, Ryan Meeks of Savannah, MO; twelve great-grandchildren, Dustin and Brittany(Wineland)Stringer of Hopkins, MO, Rebecca(Stringer) and AJ Lawrence of Maryville, MO, Daniel and Wyatt Craven of Grant City, MO,Lane Craven of Creston, IA, Cody and Emily( Foltz), of Albany, MO, Brittany Bix of Kansas City, MO, Tyler and Darron Bix of Sheridan, MO, Aaron Bass of St. Joseph, MO, Calin Bass of Hannibal, Mo, Shane Bass of Liberty, MO, Trystan Meeks of St. Joseph, MO; six great-great-grandchildren, Thomas, MyLee, Attyson, Lincoln Stringer of Hopkins, MO, Landon Lawrence of Maryville, MO, Julian Bix of Albany, MO; several nieces, nephews, extended family and her beloved dog, Timmy.
