Genevieve B. Fisher-Barker

Genevieve B. Fisher-Barker, 98, formerly of Clarksdale, MO. passed away Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Somerford Place in Encinitas, California.

Born and raised in Clarksdale, Genevieve was valedictorian of her graduating class at Clarksdale High School. She spent most of her adult life in southern California where she raised her five children. Genevieve belonged to the parish of St George in Ontario, California where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband, James Barker, parents, Paul J.and Anne G. (Pankau) Fisher; brothers, Bernard, William, Felix, Clemence, Francis, Vincent and James; sisters, Rose, Lucy, Gertrude, and Mary.

Genevieve is survived by her five children, Suzanne Wingfield (Wayne)-Colorado, James Barker (Susanne)-Alaska, Timothy Barker-Oregon, Judith Mastick (Bill)- California and MaryBeth Barker-California; three grandchildren, Natalie and Rodney Mastick, Rochelle Weaver; and great-grandchild, Connor Weaver.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hurlingen, MO. Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel in St Joseph, MO is entrusted with arrangements.

 

Frederick Frank “Fred” Zabel
1926 – 2019

Frederick Frank “Fred” Zabel, 93, of Atchison KS died on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at the Atchison Senior Village.

Fred was born on April 1, 1926 in Atchison KS the son of Frank and Marie (Rohleder) Zabel. He graduated from Atchison High School in 1944. Fred served during World War II in the United States Air Force. He worked starting as a lineman for Southwestern Bell and retired as a wire chief for AT &T Telephone Company in 1985 after 39 years of service. He was a member of the St. Benedicts Church, member of the V.F.W. and American Legion Posts, Atchison and the Pioneers. Fred enjoyed bowling, yard work, flowers, woodworking and especially watching the Royals and Chiefs.

He was married to Marcelline Jean Compton on June 8, 1948 at Sacred Heart Church. She preceded him in death on July 16, 2009.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara (Leonard) Hundley, Atchison, KS and Jacqueline (Gary) Pauley, Smithville, MO, a granddaughter, Nicole (Paul) Howard, and great granddaughter, Emily Howard. His parents, wife Marcelline, a brother, William Zabel and sister, Henrietta Stucker preceded him in death.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 pm on Monday, April 15th, at St. Benedict’s Church with Fr. Jeremy Heppler, OSB as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Atchison. A parish rosary will be recited at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 14th, with visitation to follow until 4:00 pm at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict’s Abbey or the Benedictine Sisters and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Dr. Donald Julian Stallard, Sr.
1923 – 2019

Dr. Donald Julian Stallard, Sr., died on April 10, 2019, at the age of 96.

He was born February 2, 1923, to Julian H. Stallard and Gladys Redding. He was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph. His early education included Central High School and St. Joseph Junior College, now Missouri Western State University. Following this, he obtained a B.A. degree at Kansas University in Lawrence and an M.S. degree in medicine at Missouri University in Columbia. His MD degree was earned at Washington University in St. Louis in 1947. Subsequently, he served a three-year residency in internal medicine at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. There he met his wife of almost 63 years, Loah Lunan.

Donald was engaged in the practice of internal medicine for over 35 years, first at the Thompson-Brumm-Knepper Medical and Surgical Clinic, and later with the Northwest Missouri Medical Group until his retirement in 1990.
He was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of Phi Beta Pi medical fraternity. During his active practice years, he served as president of the staff of the former Methodist Medical Center and president of the Buchanan County Medical Society. He also served on the boards of the regional chapter of the American Red Cross, the St. Joseph Symphony, the Missouri Valley Trust Company, and Green Acres Residential Facility.

After retirement, Donald was active with InterServ Meals on Wheels, Pass the Power Literacy programs, and the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army. He also enjoyed many semesters of study at Missouri Western State University.
Donald was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving in Korea as a medical officer. His citations included the Korean Service Medal with two service stars and the Combat Medical Badge.
For 10 consecutive years, he was a champion of the YMCA’s citywide squash tournament.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Julian and Gladys Redding Stallard, and his sister, Betty Schowalter.

He is survived by his wife; four children, Julia (Paul) Horne, Germantown, Tennessee, Mary (Rob Marinai) Stallard, Oakland, California, Donald (Karen), Mission Hills, Kansas, and James (Cathy Hicks) New York City, New York; and six grandchildren, Brandon Horne, Michael Horne, Amelia Marinai, William Stallard, Samuel Stallard, and Grace Stallard.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 15. Gary Leo Walker
1954 – 2019

Gary Leo Walker, 64, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2019 at his residence.

Gary was born in Kansas City, Missouri on August 27, 1954 to Richard and Lucy (Schmidt) Walker.

He attended St. Patrick’s Grade School and was a member of the 1973 graduating class of Lafayette High School. Mr. Walker retired from driving a cab. He was of the Catholic faith and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5067. He loved to dream about going fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gary is survived by brothers; Frank (Cindy) Walker, Pete (Linda) Walker, sisters; Sheri (Terry) Harris, Janne (Cary) Otwell and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Walker has been cremated under the direction of the Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. No visitation or services are scheduled.
