EDMOND, Okla. – Due to stormy conditions in the Edmond, Oklahoma area, the Missouri Western softball team’s next game in the MIAA Championships has been postponed until Saturday at 11 a.m.
Missouri Western was set to face No. 1 Central Oklahoma in the winner’s bracket final at 3 p.m. on Friday, but at the time of this release only one game had been completed before heavy rain and lightning entered the area. Plans called for an elimination game between Central Missouri and Emporia State to be played as weather allows on Friday night. Then the Missouri Western, Central Oklahoma game will become the first game on Saturday followed by another elimination game.
The winner of Missouri Western’s next game will advance to the championship game which will now be played at 10 a.m. on Sunday. If needed, a tiebreaker championship game would be played at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. The loser of the Griffons’ next game will play in the consolation bracket final at 4 p.m., Saturday.
Missouri Western will enter its matchup with the nation’s No. 1-ranked team with the longest active win streak in NCAA Division II softball. No. 7 Winona State fell 1-0 to Minnesota State on Friday to end the Warriors’ 31-game win streak that started after a 1-0 loss at Missouri Western on March 23.
