A jury found Shawn Flaherty guilty of discharging a firearm last June and causing his wife serious physical injury.

According to the Buchanan County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, after three hours of jury deliberations, guilty verdicts were returned for domestic assault in the second degree and armed criminal action.

As previously reported, the victim was shot at her St. Joseph residence during a dispute. Police officers testified that they were dispatched to the 900 block of West Valley St. in response to a husband having shot his wife. Upon their arrival, the victim in the case was found on the floor with a gunshot wound to her leg. Witnesses who were present at the time of the shooting were able to get the defendant under control and hold him until the officers arrived.

Sentencing is set for July 25, 2019.
