The St. Joseph Mustangs rallied to defeat Nevada 3-2 Saturday night inside Phil Welch Stadium.
St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team has won three straight as they improve to a franchise best 10-1 record and they’re 9-1 in the MINK League.
Mustangs’ starter Cam Bednar made just two mistakes in his seven innings of work as he allowed solo home runs to Brayland Skinner and Colemen Fenton in the third and sixth innings.
The Griffons led 2-0 until St. Joseph’s Karsen Reid had an RBI single in the sixth to cut the lead in half. The Mustangs then tied the game in the seventh inning Jackson Dierenfeldt scored on a wild pitch from Chase Beiter. St. Joe then took the lead for good in the eighth when Jordan Maxson hit a two-out infield single to score Logan Rycraft.
Dierenfeldt finished 3-for-5 and Dylan Ketch added two hits.
Bednar received a no decision as he allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings. Bednar struck out 11 and walked three. Jake Purl earned the win in relief as he threw two scoreless innings. Purl allowed just one hit as he struck out five.
The Mustangs have the day off Sunday before traveling to Jefferson City to face the Renegades as 7:00 p.m. Monday.
