Mustangs drop second straight at Jefferson City

The St. Joseph Mustangs lost their second consecutive game Tuesday as they fell at Jefferson City 7-6.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team drops to 10-3 and 9-3 in the MINK League, while the Renegades improve to 5-5.

The Mustangs led 1-0 after two innings and 3-1 after five, but Jeff City scored four in the bottom of the sixth inning to take their first lead. Both teams scored one run in the seventh before St. Joseph rallied with the two in the top of the eighth to tie the game. The Renegades then scored one run in the bottom of the eighth inning that turned out to be the winning run.

Jared Wilson suffered the loss in relief for the Mustangs as he allowed one run and three hits in the eight inning. Alec Byous started and went five innings as he gave up five runs and seven hits.

Jackson Dierenfeldt had a double and two RBI, while Jack Wagner and Brady Holden drove in one run each.

The Mustangs return to Phil Welch Stadium for a four-game home stand. It begins Wednesday night against the Clarinda A’s at 7:00 p.m.
