Mustangs rally to defeat Omaha 8-7 in 10 innings

The St. Joseph Mustangs snapped a two-game losing streak Friday night as they rallied to defeat the Omaha Bombers 9-8 in 10 innings.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 15-6 this season season.

The Mustangs trailed Omaha 8-5 with two outs in the ninth and no base runners, but St. Joseph earned their first win when trailing after eight innings.

Karl Koerper drew a two-out walk in the ninth, Hampton Hudson also walked and then Dylan Ketch singled home Koerper to pull the Mustangs within two runs.

St. Joe catcher J.P. Tighe then hit a two-run double to tie the game and force extra innings.

In the 10th, Jordan Maxson hit a sacrifice fly that scored Karsen Reid for the walk-off win for the Mustangs.

Koerper had two hits, including his fourth home run, and two RBI, while Ketch added two hits.

Cameron July earned the win in relief as he threw two scoreless innings. July struck out five and allowed just one hit.

The Mustangs get back into MINK League play Saturday as they host the Sedalia Bombers at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.
