Bednar’s complete game leads Mustangs past Sedalia 4-1

The St. Joseph Mustangs picked up a big road win Friday as they beat Sedalia 4-1 at Liberty Park Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team improves to 17-6 and they’re 13-4 in the MINK League. Sedalia falls to 11-5 in league play, 1.5 games back of the Mustangs in the North Division.

St. Joseph jumped out to a quick lead Friday as they scored three runs in the second inning and that was more than enough for Mustangs’ starter Cam Bednar.

Bednar, who has been the MINK League Pitcher of the Week the last two weeks, threw a complete game to get his second win of the season. Bednar allowed one run in the ninth inning and gave up only three hits. He struck out seven and walked five.

Jackson Dierenfeldt led the Mustangs again offensively as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Karson Reid added two hits, while Jordan Maxson and Derek Hussey had one RBI each.

St. Joseph returns home Saturday as they host the Jefferson City Renegades at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium. The game will be broadcast on KFEQ 680 AM and 107.9 FM, as well as online here.
