The St. Joseph Mustangs were shut out for the second time in three games Tuesday night as they lost to Clarinda 3-0 inside Phil Welch Stadium.
St. Joe’s summer college baseball team falls to 32-13 overall and 23-12 in the MINK League. Chillicothe defeated Nevada Tuesday 5-4 and now the Mustangs’ lead over the Mudcats is down to just 1.5 games.
Clarinda scored on three runs in the second inning as they had four hits in the inning, including an RBI triple by Ethan Mohan and an RBI double by D’Marco Poindexter.
The Mustangs struggled offensively all night as they had just five hits. St. Joseph had mulitple runners on base three times and failed to get a hit with runners in scoring position.
Eric Wilcoxson, Ryan Abernathy, Trent Hill, Mike Sherburne and Nick Sebastian each had a single for the Mustangs.
St. Joe starter Miles Gulley (3-3) suffered the loss as he went seven innings and allowed three runs on eight hits. He struck out five and walked three.
The Mustangs are off Wednesday before playing a doubleheader Thursday night against Chillicothe at Phil Welch Stadium. The first pitch of game one is set for 5:30 p.m. and both games will air live on 680 KFEQ & here on StJosephPost.com.
