Some Tax Issues Pass, Some Fail

ballot boxThere were mixed results in our area after voting Tuesday on new taxes.

The statewide vote on a transportation sales tax (Amendment 7) failed by a 59% to 41% margin.

Voters in the Mound City R-2 School District approved a $2.8 million bond issue Tuesday with more than 65% support.  That money will help pay for school improvements, security improvements and handicap access.

Forest City voters approved a 30-cent general fund levy for police protection.

In Atchison County, Missouri voters said yes to a levy for road-rock funding.

Voters in Cameron nixed a proposed half-cent sales tax for economic development and recreation by a 49.41% to 50.58% margin.
