Livingston County Sheriff Steve Cox says someone fired a shotgun as a pilot practiced takeoffs and landings at the Chillicothe Airport Wednesday evening. The pilot was not hit, and didn’t notice the damage to his plane until the next day.
According to Cox, the pattern of the buckshot suggests the pilot was fairly close to the ground which most likely places the suspect well within a mile of the Chillicothe Airport when the plane was shot. It is fair to say the aircraft was probably within 100 yards of the ground at the time it was shot due to the pattern and damage.
This is a very serious crime and the Sheriff is seeking information from anyone who may have heard one or more gunshots or saw anything unusual in the area of the Chillicothe Airport on Wednesday evening between 6:30 p.m. and dusk. He’d also like to hear from you if you know anyone having a problem with aircraft in the area
