A man who identified himself as “God” got into a scuffle with Livingston County Deputies Monday after making it through the county courthouse metal detectors with at least one knife.
In a news release, Sheriff Steve Cox says the suspect walked through the metal detector with his fists clinched and his hands in the air. The device alerted deputies to the presence of metal. A deputy used the hand wand around the man’s body and legs.
Cox says the man still had his hands in the air, so the smaller device did not signal any metal. As the man began walking up a flight of stairs, a detective spotted at least one knife in the man’s hand.
Sheriff Cox says the man became uncooperative with a deputy, who tried to arrest him for trespassing. With the help of two detectives the man was handcuffed and arrested. The man allegedly told the deputy he was going to cut off “a certain part of the deputy’s body.”
The suspect was allegedly going to see an employee towards whom he had reportedly displayed anger and/or dislike in the past, according to the news release.
Lawrence Edward Felton, 65, of Chillicothe was charged with first-degree trespassing, assault of a law officer and resisting arrest. According to online court records, Associate Circuit Judge James P. Valbracht has removed himself from the case.
