An armed standoff at a home in the 200 block of Elm Street in Saint Joseph ended early Tuesday morning when police dosed the suspect with pepper spray and took him into custody.
Police Sergeant Brett Kelly says it began about six hours earlier as a domestic disturbance call. When the suspect refused to come out the Special Response Team was called. There were firearms in the home. A negotiator began talking with the suspect. Other family members were allowed to leave the residence.
Shortly after midnight officers breached the door and administered a shot of pepper spray. The suspect came out and surrendered. No shots were fired. There were no injuries. The suspect was booked for investigation of domestic disturbance.
