The Griffon men’s golf team finished in a tie for 8th place at the Pittsburg State Invitational Tuesday as they shot a two round total of 625 (310-315) eleven strokes back of seventh place Southwest Baptist (614) and eleven strokes ahead of 10th place Missouri Southern State (636). Logan Gilliland was the Griffons top finisher tying for 20th firing a two round total of 151 (73-78).
Central Missouri won the event shooting a 581 (290-291) four strokes better than Washburn University (288-297) and Lindenwood University (297-288). Arkansas Tech finished in fourth with a 596 (304-292), Pittsburg State finished fifth with a 599 (295-304) and Fort Hays State finished sixth with a 601 (310-291).
The individual winner of the event was Washburn’s Nate Hoeflin firing a 140 (69-71). He shot two strokes better then Lindenwood’s Brad Blair and Central Missouri’s Jared King.
Missouri Western’s Kenny Stone fired a 153 (76-77) while Tyler Gast (82-78), Derek Hawkins (79-82) and James O’Brien (83-82) shot 160, 161 and 165 respectively. Scott Sheldon finished in a tie for 36th firing a 155 (81-74).
Western will be back in action on Monday, September 26 and Tuesday, September 27 when they participate in the Northeastern State Golf Class in Muskogee, Okla. at the Muskogee Country Club.
