

PRAIRIEVILLE, La. – Mary Helen White, 74, formerly of St. Joseph, died Sunday, November 9, 2014 in her home in Prairieville.
She was born October 31, 1940 to Mauricio and Francis (Cruz) Barbosa in St. Joseph.
Mary married Jerrol “Jerry” White on December 1,1962. He preceded her in death on September 18, 2005.
She worked at Steven’s Hats, Barbosa’s Mexican Restaurant, and was a salesclerk later in life.
Mrs. White was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; Pelen E.C. Barbosa and Merced Barbosa, and a sister; Lupe Cathcart.
Survivors: daughter, Lisa White Clark (Will); and two grandchildren, Trey and Ella Clark, Prairieville; four brothers; Jesse Barbosa (Wanda), St. Joseph, Jason Barbosa, Maryville, Mo., Faustino Barbosa, St. Joseph, Rick Barbosa (Norma), Virginia Beach, Va.; five sisters, Bernie Ceglenski (Mike), Helena, Julia Burris, St. Joseph; Christina Torres (Carlos), Austin, Texas; Ruth Curtain, St. Joseph; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

ST. JOSEPH – Charles L. Mears, 91, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2014 at his home.
He was born January 10, 1923 in St. Joseph, to O.C. and Mary (Finney) Mears.
Charles was a graduate of the Benton High School Class of 1941 in which he played for the team that went on to win the Basketball State Championship. Upon graduation, he became the market reporter for the News-Press and The Gazette. Later, he became the Livestock Market and Financial Editor until his retirement after 44 years.
In 1943 he served as a teletype operator for 25 months in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. His medium bomber squadron was the first aerial combat unit to go overseas after the declaration of war. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon.
Charles married Esther Rapp in Joplin, Mo., preceding his deployment. They were able to celebrate their 69th anniversary before her death in 2011.
Charles loved his church and was a faithful member of the King Hill Baptist congregation where he served as an usher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, O.C. and Mary Mears; wife, Esther Mears; two sisters, Irene Dittemore (Emery) and Mildred Noel (Frank); and two nephews, Tommy Noel and Billy Dittemore.
Charles is survived by a son, Charlie Mears (Marty); two grandchildren, Scott Mears (Adriana) and Shelly Mears; and five great- grandchildren, Melanie and Steven Mears, Mason and Max and Mia Scheidler.
Above all, Charles loved his family. He was a loving and supporting husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Family gatherings were extremely important to him. Up until his death, he actively attended and supported his great-grandchildren’s church, school, and sporting events. Many priceless memories have been created over the years. We will all miss him very much and will continue to keep him in our hearts forever.

ST. JOSEPH – Maxwell L. Reynolds, 94, passed away November 10, 2014.
Maxwell was born on September 30, 1920 in Agency, Mo., to Mr. and Mrs. Ray Reynolds.
He grew up in Agency and graduated from Agency High School.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Ellis Reynolds and his parents.
He was inducted in the Army October 22, 1942.

ST. JOSEPH – Lawrence Neal Sadler, 85, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2014 in a St. Joseph hospital.
He was born June 1, 1929 in St. Joseph, son of Gouelda and Clarence Sadler. He graduated from Benton high school (1947) and served in the United States Army. He worked at Lehr Construction for many years as a carpenter. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Neal was preceded in death by wife, Elizabeth Ann Sadler; his parents; and a grandchild.
Survivors include: four daughters, Janet Hedges and husband Marion “Shorty” of Cape Coral, Fla., Diana Higgins and husband Stephen of Presque Isle, Ma., and Rhonda Blaylock and husband Kim of St. Joseph, and Valerie Sadler of St. Joseph; a son, Jeffrey Sadler and wife Holly of St. Joseph; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Galen (Teri) Sadler of Florida.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., on Friday, November 14, 2014 at Rupp Funeral Home, with Rev. James Barnett officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m., on Thursday at Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. ST. JOSEPH – James Alfred Peck, 74, passed away Sunday November 9, 2014 at a St. Joseph hospital. He was born April 18, 1940 in Dekalb, Mo., son of Dorothy and William Peck. He married Nellie Peck on February 14, 2013. He graduated from DeKalb high school, and served in the United States Army. He worked at Standard Oil as a Oil Distributor, and worked in light construction.

He is survived by wife, Nellie Peck of the home; daughter, Dana Peck of Kansas City, Mo.; step-children from a from a previous wife, Laura Graham, Chris Osborn, and David Baldwin; granddaughter, Jackie L. Glidewell of Kansas City; six step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, William L. Peck of St. Joseph.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 2 p.m., at Rupp Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday prior to the service.
