A St Joseph woman is being held on felony charges for the apparent malnutrition death of her seven-month-old child. Macayla Armstrong was charged Saturday with Abuse Or Neglect Of A Child Resulting In Death, a class-A felony.
According to a court affidavit, the defendant failed to provide reasonable and necessary care to maintain the physical health of the child. Officials say Armstrong failed to provide healthy and sanitary living conditions, food, nourishment and medical care and that neglect resulted in the death of the child by malnutrition.
Upon conviction, the charge carries a minimum prison term of ten years behind bars. The maximum is 30 years or life in prison.
Arraignment is scheduled Tuesday. Armstrong, 22, is being held under $50,000 bond.
