KANSAS CITY – The Royals wrapped up the week by agreeing to terms on a two-year, $20 million contract with free-agent right-hander Edinson Volquez. The club has not yet announced the deal, which was first reported by CBSSports.com.
Volquez, 31, is the latest of four free-agent signings by the Royals. He could help make up for the likely loss of pitcher James Shields, who remains a free agent.
Last season, Volquez had a 13-7 record and 3.04 ERA while pitching 192 2/3 innings for the Pirates.
