The aunt of missing 10-month-old Lisa Irwin appeared on “Good Morning America” on Tuesday and said the baby’s mother is preparing to be arrested by police.
The aunt, Ashley Irwin, said she believed that police were spending more time focusing on the family, in particular Lisa’s mother, Deborah Bradley, than on finding viable suspects.
“It’s what the police do, they don’t have any leads, so they have to pin it on somebody,” Irwin said.
Also on the program, Kansas City Police Captain Steve Young called that “an absurd notion.”
“We’re not offended by it because it’s so far from reality, Young said.
“We’re under pressure to find a child. We’re not under pressure to pin this on anybody or wrap it up and make an arrest.”
On Monday, Kansas City television stations were subpoenaed to submit footage of interviews with friends and family of a missing 10-month-old girl.
The subpoenas from the Clay County grand jury were sent Monday afternoon to at least four local network affiliates. The stations reported on their websites that the subpoenas state that the Clay County prosecutor is seeking raw video of interviews with family, friends of family and neighbors of Lisa Irwin.
Her parents reported her missing October 4.
The subpoenas also ask that media present the documents later this month, but it was unclear if the TV stations would comply.
Police have said they have no suspects in the case. But neighbors say they have been questioned about a homeless man seen in the neighborhood about two weeks ago.
