Urban Deer Hunting?

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) – With residents grumbling, the Cape Girardeau City Council is looking into the possibility of urban deer hunting.

The practice allows hunters to kill deer inside city limits. Council representative John Voss is thinking the most likely possibility is closely regulated bow hunting – never guns – over a specific period of time.

The Southeast Missourian reported that Voss says hunters would have to be licensed and go through special training.

Voss says he’s not looking at eradicating the deer population, just reducing it.

Constituents have been contacting Voss with concerns about deer-related car accidents and property damage. He says deer don’t have any natural predators and the issue needs to be addressed.

Urban deer hunting already is allowed in St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield, Columbia and Jefferson City.
