Bearcats drops two more to Washburn; losing streak reaches six

Northwest2013riggertThe Northwest Missouri State baseball games lost both games in a doubleheader against Washburn on Friday afternoon.

After the Bearcats rallied to tie game one in the sixth, the Ichabods sealed the victory with four runs in the seventh and final inning.

Washburn took the nine-inning game two, 13-5.

The Bearcats fall to 19-24 this season and 14-18 in the MIAA, while the Ichabods improved their record to 26-17 and 19-13 in the conference.

In game one, Paul Johnson finished 2-for-4, driving in two runs, Nick Gotta smashed a pair of singles and scored one run and Austin Wulff scored a pair of runs after crushing a double and drawing two walks.

Nikko Pablo took the loss after giving up seven runs on eight hits in 6.1 innings pitched. The sophomore tallied six strikeouts in the contest.

In game two, Luke Wilkinson collected three hits in five at bats, one of which was his third double this season.  Austin Wulff drove in a pair of runs after reaching base on a pair of singles and drawing a walk.

Garrett Fort hit a home run for the second day in a row, driving in two runs and Nick Gotta scored a pair of runs after reaching base three times.

Steven Garber had a two-hit performance, reaching on a single and a double.

Brad Roberts gave up six runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings to take the loss. Roberts struck out five Ichabods while walking four.

Northwest Missouri State will host Midland College on Tuesday, April 21, at 2 p.m. at Bearcat Field in non-conference action. MIAA play will conclude with a four-game series at Missouri Western starting on Friday, April 24.
