Suspect gets time served after wild airline ride

USDOJ colorAn Illinois man who tried to open an exit door on an airline flight has been sentenced to the nearly seven months he’s already served and was placed on supervised federal release. Joshua Lee Suggs was also ordered to pay Southwest Airlines $4,400.

According to investigators, Suggs refused to sit down as instructed during a flight from Chicago to Sacramento. Instead he pushed past a flight attendant, and tried to open the exterior door. A number of passengers subdued Suggs before he could open the door. The flight was diverted to Omama and Suggs was arrested.

Mr Suggs, 24, of Oswego, Illinois, was sentenced for Interference with Flight Crew Members. Senior United States District Court Judge Joseph F. Bataillon sentenced Suggs to the custody of the United States Bureau of Prisons for 6 months and 23 days, which is time Suggs has already served.

Suggs will immediately begin a three (3) year term of supervised release.

Suggs was also ordered to pay restitution to Southwest Airlines in the amount of $4,400.00.
