A babysitter was bound over for Circuit Court arraignment on child abuse charges after a preliminary hearing in Nodaway County Monday.

Nicholas “Nikki” Bradshaw is charged with two counts of Abuse or Neglect of a Child resulting in death. The charge is a class-A felony and each carries a mandatory 15-year minimum sentence upon conviction.

According to a medical examiner present at the autopsy, 10-month-old Aiden’s death was a homicide caused by “abusive head trauma.” According to the statute, that’s defined as “a serious physical injury to the head or brain caused by any means, including but not limited to shaking, jerking, pushing, pulling, slamming, hitting, or kicking.”

Mr Bradshaw told the parents he had tripped over a computer printer cord and dropped the child. The baby was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Maryville and then transported to Childrens Mercy Hospital in Kansas City where he died two days later.

Associate Circuit Judge Doug Thomson bound Mr Bradshaw over for trial and scheduled arraignment July 6.
