Mustangs get a doubleheader sweep of Ozark Thursday

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs snapped their two-game losing streak with a doubleheader sweep of Ozark Thursday night inside Phil Welch Stadium.  St. Joe’s summer college baseball team rallies to win game one 6-2 and they blanked the Generals in the nightcap 7-0.

The Mustangs improve to 14-3 this season and 11-3 in the MINK League.

In game one, Ozark scored single runs in the third and fifth innings to take a 2-0 lead before the Mustangs rallied with a six-run sixth inning to take the lead and eventually get the win.

Trent Hill finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and Francisco Alvarez had a two-RBI single in the sixth inning.  Orencio Fisher and Jacob Richardson also drove in one run each.

Miles Gully earned the win as he allowed just three hits and one earned run in six innings of work.

In game two, St. Joseph starter Preston Felgate threw a seven inning complete-game shutout.  He struck out five and didn’t walk a batter as he allowed just four hits.  Felgate retired the final 13 batters he faced as he improves to 3-0 this summer.

The Mustangs scored two in the first inning and broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning.  In the fourth, Ozark pitchers combined to walked six batters as St. Joe scored its five runs without getting a hit.  The Generals also committed two errors in the inning.

Orencio Fisher and Evan McDonald each finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored.  McDonald and Scott Braren had one RBI apiece on bases loaded walks.

The Mustangs play the Generals again Friday night as the first pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.
