Mustangs get non-league win over North Kansas City 6-2

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs won their second consecutive game Wednesday night as they defeated North Kansas City 6-2 in a non-league game inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball is now 26-11 this season and they remain 21-10 in the MINK League.

North Kansas City took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Mustangs answered right back as they put up four runs in the bottom of the first.

Neither offense did much after that as St. Joseph scored single runs in the fourth and eighth innings, and North Kansas City didn’t score until the ninth.

Mitch Steinhoff earned the win for the Mustangs as he allowed one unearned run and four hits in seven innings of work.  He struck out six and walked two.

Kyle Richards and Trevor Moeck each had two hits and one RBI to lead St. Joe, while Richards scored two runs in the game.

The Mustangs have a day off Thursday as the inaugural MINK League All-Star game will take place inside Phil Welch Stadium in St. Joseph.  Nine Mustangs will take part in the game as the first pitch is set for 7:15 p.m.  The game will be broadcast on 680 KFEQ and here on StJosephPost.com.  There will also be a home run derby that will take place before that around 5:20 p.m.
