Stolen vehicle leads to fraudulent card use

hiawatha police departmentPolice in northeast Kansas are asking the public for help in a fraud investigation involving a stolen vehicle and suspects last spotted in Missouri.

Hiawatha Police Chief John Defore said a gray 2012 Chevy Suburban with Kansas Plates was reported stolen in Hiawatha Thursday around 5:40 p.m.  The vehicle was left unlocked with the keys and debit card left inside.

“The last transaction was tracked to a convenience store in Rushville, MO,” Defore said.

Two suspects are being sought in connection with the theft.  The first suspect is described as a white female in her mid 20s, 5’06 to 5’08” tall, 160 to 180 pounds, wearing black basketball style shorts, pink sleeveless shirt, and black baseball cap on backwards, hair was not visible under the cap.  The second suspect is a white male in his early to mid-20’s 5’08 to 5’10” tall, 150 pounds, short brown, slightly curly hair with pink dye, black t-shirt with an indiscernible logo on it, dark shorts.

Defore encourages residents to make sure to always lock their vehicles and not leave valuables or the keys inside.
