Platte County authorities say the Northland DWI Task Force made 16 DWI arrests at a pair of DWI checkpoints Saturday.

Two DWI checkpoints were conducted on August 22, 2015, on 152 Highway at Platte Purchase Road from midnight until 4am. Checkpoints were placed on both eastbound and westbound 152 Highway. The checkpoints were a combined effort with the Northland DWI Task Force.

The checkpoints were dedicated to the memory of Donald Rippy. Mr. Rippy was killed by an intoxicated driver near 152 Highway and I-435, in Platte County, in 2014. Mr. Rippy’s family was present at the checkpoints.

A total of 914 vehicles were checked between the two checkpoints. The following arrests were made as a result of the two checkpoints:

* 15 — DWI Arrests (Alcohol)
* 1 — DWI Arrest (Drugs)
* 1 — Felony drug arrest
* 3 — Misdemeanor drug arrests
* 1 — Resisting arrest
* 8 — Non-moving arrest
* 3 — Driving with a suspended license arrests
* 7 — Driving without a valid operator’s arrests

The Northland DWI Task Force included the Platte County Sheriff’s Office, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the Kansas City Police Department, the Gladstone Police Department, Liberty Police Department, Kearney Police Department, Smithville Police Department, Excelsior Springs Police Department, Riverside Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
