Flu clinic set for Wednesday in St. Joseph

flu shot needle syringeThe City of St. Joseph Health Department will host its free flu clinic Wednesday.

The department said it’s joining Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Tom Frieden, MD, in encouraging everyone over the age of 6 months to get an influenza vaccination. This year’s vaccine is a closer match for the H3N2 strain associated with worse illness and higher mortality from the 2014-2015 flu season. According to the latest surveillance data, the same H3N2 strain continues to
circulate. Manufacturers have prepared 171 million doses of influenza vaccine, of which 40 million have already been distributed.

The City of St Joseph Health Department will conduct its annual flu clinic on Wednesday, October 7, 2015. The clinic will be held at Green Valley Baptist Church, 3110 Cook Road, St. Joseph, MO 64506. The clinic will begin at 9:00 a.m. and run until noon or while supplies last.

This clinic is open to Buchanan County residents aged 18 and older, and who are not pregnant. Those with privately provided health insurance, Medicare or Missouri HealthNet are asked to present their card at the clinic registration. Those with privately provided health insurance should be aware of what their policy covers regarding the flu vaccine.

No services will be provided at the Health Department, 904 S 10th St, on the day of the flu clinic but will resume on Thursday, October 8th. For more information regarding the flu clinic, call 271-4725.
