Two Saint Joseph police officers and a suspect were injured in a confrontation outside the Walgreens at Belt and Frederick early Tuesday morning.
Sergeant Brett Kelly says officers responded at 12:45 am to reports of a man acting strangely in a parked car. The suspect appeared to be intoxicated. He became combative when the officers tried to take him into custody.
Sergeant Kelly says one officer suffered injuries to his hands, ribs, and knees. The other was bitten on the upper arm. Both officers tried to deploy tasers but they were ineffective. After the officers subdued the suspect, all three were taken to Mosaic Life Care for treatment of what appeared to be minor injuries. As of 9:51 a.m. Capt. Jeff Wilson said the officers had been treated and released, the 28-year-old suspect was still receiving medical care.
Sergeant Kelly says the suspect will be held for investigation of resisting arrest and assault on a police officer.
