Traffic issues due to police activity in St. Joseph

A police incident in St. Joseph is causing issues for motorists in the area.

As of 10 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol had closed off I-29 to northbound and southbound traffic from mile marker 44 to mile marker 50. I-29 is being diverted at 229.

The Missouri Department of Transportation said Traffic is also being divert at 169 which is mile marker 50 due to the incident.

The St. Joseph Police Department is also telling motorists to avoid Frederick Blvd near I-29 for a police incident.

The St. Joseph Police Department is preparing to block traffic at Frederick and Woodbine.

Business in the area have evacuated or are on lockdown.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol and the St. Joseph Police Department is currently on scene at Motel 6 in St. Joseph near Frederick and I-29 for an active standoff. Our reporter said he saw what looked like a flash bang and possibly a shot fire around 9:30 a.m. Earlier this morning one of our employees, James Fisher reported hearing a gunshot and a lady scream the run across the parking lot.
