A family using a electric generator in a home with no utilities must now find a new place to live. That generator caught fire shortly after noon on Sunday, sparking the house at 800 North Fifth Street. The house sustained about $20,000 damage.

It was the third damaging fire of the weekend for the St Joseph Fire Department. On Saturday, a half-dozen people were displaced when fire damaged their home at 614 South 11th. No one was home at the time.

Shortly after that, another house fire was reported, at 2222 Seneca Street. Six people safely evacuated.

The cause of Saturday’s fires have not been determined. American Red Cross was called in to assist residents.
