15 Northwest Missouri State football players earn All-MIAA honors

Northwest Missouri State had 15 players earn All-MIAA accolades and Bryce Enyard was named MIAA Freshman of the Year when the football post-season conference awards were announced by league officials Tuesday.

The Bearcats had three players selected to the first team with offensive lineman Cody Johnson representing the offense and defensive lineman Josh Lorenson and linebacker Chad Kilgore as the defensive selections. Northwest placed five players on the second team offense and Enyard the lone second team selection on the defensive side with six players earning honorable mention honors.

Northwest (9-2) earned their eighth consecutive and 16th overall playoff selection as they were named the No. 5 seed in the NCAA Division II playoffs. The Bearcats open the playoffs on Saturday in a week 10 rematch with Missouri Western in a noon first round playoff game at Spratt Stadium.

League champion Pittsburg State placed 4 players on the first and second teams while runner-up Washburn had nine players on the All-MIAA teams. Washburn opens the NCAA DII playoffs on Saturday against Abilene Christian while the Gorillas earned a No. 2 seed and first round bye.

Along with Enyard on the second team were running backs Jordan Simmons and James Franklin while Simmons was also named second team kick returner. Kyle Kilgore was named second team tight end with Rod Williams earning offensive line honors and Todd Adolf being named second team kicker.

Northwest had six players earn honorable mention accolades as seniors Jake Soy, David Mosley, Taylor Pierce, Blake Christopher, Aaron Terry and junior Tyler Shaw rounded out the Bearcats 15 individual post-season awards.
