Local figure skaters to compete in “Best of the Mid-West Synchro Championships”

Fifteen synchronized ice skating teams from across the state compete at St. Joseph’s Bode Ice Arena on Sunday, Nov. 8, in the fourth-annual “The Best of the Mid-West Synchro Championships.”

The competition, which is free to the public, runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Skaters from St. Joseph, Jefferson City, Kansas City, St. Charles, St. Peters, and Webster Groves, Missouri will participate in the competition which is free and open to the public.

Teams of eight to 16 skaters ranging from grade-school children to college students will perform 1- to 3-minute programs to music of their choice. This year the St. Joseph Figure Skating Club and Bode Ice Arena will be represented with an Open Juvenile team of 13 skaters and 11 skaters on a Beginner team.Synchronized skaters2

Judges from as far as Colorado and Michigan will determine the merits of each programs on unison, speed, originality, choreography, ice coverage, and skill and performance level. The event is sponsored by the Mid-West Figure Skating Council of Ice Skating Clubs, which includes clubs from St. Joseph, Wichita, and the Line Creek and Silver Blades clubs from Kansas City.

Bode Ice Arena is located at 2500 SW Parkway in St. Joseph.
