The Chillicothe Police Department is investigating a scam involving funds allegedly being collected for the department.

The department said it learned of the scam Monday where some person or persons are calling citizens of Chillicothe requesting monetary funds claiming they are for the Chillicothe Police Department.

“The Chillicothe Police Department would like to advise the Citizens of Chillicothe that we do not solicit the public for money in any way. If the Chillicothe Police Department was looking for donations, Officers would come in person and request a donation, would have a department letterhead, and would also provide this to media outlets, but again, the Chillicothe Police Department is not calling and asking for money,” the department warned on social media. “Please do not provide your personal information or monetary account information over the phone. Furthermore, Chief Knouse has not approved of anyone from the Chillicothe Police Department to solicit the public.”
