A toddler drowned in a pond on private property in Platte County Monday.
In a news release, officials say the sheriff’s office, fire department and EMS responded to the 19000 block of H highway after a three-year-old boy fell into a pond. The initial investigation showed that the boy fell into a pond in the front yard of the residence when a family member stepped inside the house.
Officials believe the child was out of the sight for only a few minutes. The child was transported to an area hospital by ground ambulance and died at the hospital.
The Platte County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the child’s death but at this time they say the death appears to be accidental. Names are being withheld at this time to allow for the family to make notifications.
