Woman pleads guilty in Missouri jail commissary theft

jail prisonSPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — A Springfield woman has admitted she was part of a fraud scheme that stole thousands of dollars from the Greene County jail commissary.

Terri Ann Moses pleaded guilty Tuesday to participating in a conspiracy to commit bank fraud.

An investigation found 731 unauthorized transactions from the commissary account between March 2010 and October 2011. The estimated loss was $266,423.

Moses and another woman paid the bills of up to 175 people in exchange for 50 percent of each individual bill. The money to pay the bills was diverted from the commissary account.

Moses admitted she used the jail’s commissary account to pay her bills and conspired with others to pay bills for profit.

Three other women have been sentenced for their roles in the fraud scheme.
