Glidewell, Colleen. obitphoto Colleen Marie (Ellsworth) Glidewell, 71, passed away to meet her Lord and Savior Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Mosaic Life Care with her husband Larry and family at her side.
Colleen was born July 3, 1944 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Her parents were Edward and Hazel Ellsworth who preceded her in death.
On February 16, 1962, Colleen was united in marriage with Larry Glidewell at the Wyatt Park Assembly of God Church.
She was a graduate of Central High School and Methodist School of Nursing.
Despite being stricken with polio at the age of 2 that left her partially paralyzed in one leg, she was able to raise three children, complete nurses’ training and eventually finish 31 years of service at Heartland Hospital, retiring as an RN in May 2010.
Colleen’s greatest desire in life was to be a servant of her Lord by helping those in need physically, spiritually or financially. It was common for her to give gifts to those in need anonymously.
While her husband Larry took care of the yard Colleen loved to decorate her home for each season and especially for Christmas.
Colleen dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and members of her church Faith Valley Church of God who along with Pastor Mark Smith encouraged her with many prayers, cards, calls and visits.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Forrest and Robert Ellsworth.
Survivors include her husband of the home, daughter Jennifer (Joe Michael) Christian of Blue Springs, sons Joseph (Stacy) of Marion, Iowa, Jeffrey (Terry) of St. Joseph, and grandsons Isaac, Nathaniel, Jordan (Jessica), Josiah, Jeremiah and Levi.
Colleen’s special bouquets: To my husband, the best in the world. Truly “united until death us do part.” Faithful and loving until the end. Mosaic Cancer Center (chemo nurses and staff), Mosaic Oncology United (nurses and staff), Dr. Weigand and Dr. Sprague, special Nurse Practitioner Dana McDaniel. Mosaic Hospice Kate Lewis R.N., Sue Powers S.W, Mosaic LTAC (nurses and staff) and all the others that were so tender and kind in their caring.
Supported prayers of my whole church family were appreciated. My pastor and his wife were the best. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Moss were the best people and prayer warriors in the world. I’ve cherished the friendship of all the Heartland (Mosaic) employees I’ve worked with.
The family suggests memorials to Faith Valley Church of God or the American Cancer Society.
