Five firefighting agencies responded to a fire in the Princeton, Missouri town square Tuesday.

The blaze destroyed at least two buildings and forced election officials to move one the city’s polling places for Tuesday’s election. There was a water main break on the Princeton Square, but water service was left on to fight the fire.

The fire destroyed the buildings housing Jeff’s Place bar, the Mercer County Senior Center and A Better Image Salon Spa & Fitness.

The fire smoldered overnight, as firefighters kept watch.   There has been not determination of the cause of the fire.  There were no reports of injuries.

Mike O’Connell of the Missouri Department of Public Safety offered up more details.

The fire started at roughly 1:27 p.m. affecting a large section of businesses on the east side of the Princeton square. O’Connell says it was first noticed inside the building at 102 North Broadway Avenue on the east side of the square occupied by “Jeff’s Place”, which is a bar.

The fire consumed the business along with the majority of the Mercer County Senior Center which is located at 110 North Broadway Avenue. A business to the south of Jeff’s Place known as A Better Image Salon, Spa and Fitness sustained heavy fire and smoke damage.

When the Division of Fire Safety Investigator left the scene, a business to the north of 110 North Broadway and a second business to the southeast of 100 North Broadway were inside the collapse zone and were in danger of structural damage.  He was expected to examine both those businesses on Wednesday.
