A 27-year-old man has been charged after allegedly crashing two stolen vehicles in St. Joseph.
Andrew Justice is charged in Buchanan County with a felony for tampering with a motor vehicle.
According to court documents, on two occasions Justice has wrecked stolen vehicles. Justice was arrested Tuesday at a crash involving a stolen pickup.
However, the tampering charge stems from an incident that took place Jan. 18 when a Toyota Tundra was stolen from a victim in the 800 block of S. 16th.
“The vehicle was found wrecked and abandoned several hours later at 2902 N. 12th,” said Det. Chase Cotter with SJPD. “Approx. 30 minutes after the accident, according to a witness statement, the defendant was at 1525 St. Joseph Ave. where he asked for a ride due to wrecking a truck at Highland Meadows after running from the police.”
Justice allegedly told detectives when he was arrested at the scene Tuesday that he had just gotten back into town.
“He was arrested on 4/12/16 in another stolen pickup truck, where he wrecked into 3 parked cars after fleeing police,” Cotter said. “He is a suspect in an armed robbery and a receiving stolen property case from less than a week ago.”
Cotter said Justice has no job, residence or ties to St. Joseph.
Bail for Justice has been denied. He’s scheduled for an arraignment Friday.
