Overnight storms in our area did not measure up to Tuesday morning’s weather, which washed out roads, took down trees, power poles and power lines, and caused power outages throughout the area. But we did get a lot more rain, and that was causing some problems Wednesday morning. The area was placed under a flash flood watch and a flood warning until 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Officials say you should avoid the Route-P near the Buchanan/Dekalb County line because of high water. That alert was sent via the Nixle warning service at about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Rainfall records were set in St Joseph and at Kansas City International Airport on Tuesday. The National Weather Service reported 3.65 inches of rain at KCI, and the official reading in St Joseph was 3.05 inches. Both totals broke the previous records set on yesterday’s date in 2009.

Floodwaters briefly closed Route-9 near Parkville in Platte County. 9 Hwy north of Coffey Road to 8500 Block is now open as water has receded.
