The St. Joseph Mustangs won their fifth consecutive game Sunday night as they defeated the Ban Johnson League All-Star team 9-3 inside Phil Welch Stadium.
St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team is now 23-8 as the five-game streak equals their longest of the season.
The Mustangs took an early lead against the Ban Johnson All-Stars as Jacob Richardson’s solo home run highlighted a two-run first inning. St. Joseph added one run in the second and it remained that way until the sixth inning when the Mustangs broke the game open with five runs to take an 8-0 lead.
Both teams scored a single run in the seventh and the All-Stars added two unearned runs in the ninth inning.
Mustangs’ third baseman Davey Casciola had a big night as he finished 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs scored, two walks and two stolen bases. Richardson added two RBI and Orencio Fisher went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
John Millan made his second start of the season for St. Joe and he improved to 4-0. Millan went six innings and allowed no runs and only three hits. He struck out four and walked four as his ERA this season is now at 0.36.
The Mustangs return to MINK League play Monday as they host Sedalia at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN 1550 AM.
